Opc Modeling Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an OPC Modeling Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an OPC Modeling Engineer, you need a strong background in semiconductor physics, computational modeling, and a relevant engineering or science degree. Expertise in OPC software tools like Mentor Calibre or Synopsys, along with experience in scripting languages such as Python or Perl, is typically required. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective cross-functional communication are vital soft skills for this role. These skills ensure precise photolithography models, efficient design-to-manufacturing processes, and seamless collaboration with design and fabrication teams.

What is the difference between Opc Modeling Engineer vs PCB Design Engineer?

AspectOpc Modeling EngineerPCB Design Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Electrical Engineering or related, knowledge of OPC standardsBachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or PCB Design certifications
Work EnvironmentSemiconductor fabrication, EDA tool developmentElectronics manufacturing, product development
Industry UsageSemiconductor industry, IC manufacturingConsumer electronics, industrial equipment
Common Search/ComparisonYesNo

Opc Modeling Engineers focus on creating models for optical proximity correction in semiconductor manufacturing, working closely with EDA tools and chip fabrication. PCB Design Engineers develop printed circuit boards for electronic devices, emphasizing layout and electrical integrity. While both roles require electrical engineering knowledge, they serve different stages of electronic product development and are used in distinct industry segments.

What are some common challenges faced by OPC Modeling Engineers when working with new process nodes?

OPC Modeling Engineers often encounter challenges such as adapting to the increasing complexity of advanced process nodes, where feature sizes become smaller and patterning requirements grow more demanding. Accurate model calibration becomes more time-consuming, requiring close collaboration with lithography, process, and design teams. Additionally, integrating new materials and technologies can introduce unforeseen variables, making continuous learning and flexible problem-solving essential for success in this role.

What are OPC Modeling Engineers?

OPC Modeling Engineers are specialists who develop, calibrate, and maintain optical proximity correction (OPC) models used in semiconductor manufacturing. These engineers work to improve the fidelity of photolithography processes by simulating and correcting distortions that occur when transferring circuit patterns onto silicon wafers. Their expertise helps ensure that microchips are fabricated with high precision and yield, enabling the continued advancement of smaller and more complex semiconductor devices. OPC Modeling Engineers typically collaborate with process engineers, software developers, and design teams to optimize and implement OPC strategies.

ETAP is committed to creating a diverse work environment and is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Job Title:Software Integration Test Engineer - SCADA

Location:Irvine, CA or Houston, TX

Employment Type:Full-time / Hybrid

The job

The SCADA Integration Test Engineer is responsible for validating the integration between ETAP's electrical digital twin platform and third-party SCADA and Energy Management Systems. This role focuses on ensuring seamless interoperability through REST APIs, OPC UA, automatic telemetry mapping, and automated model synchronization.

Working closely with product management, software development teams, and external SCADA teams, this engineer will validate end-to-end workflows including electrical network model exchange, telemetry configuration, real-time data acquisition, and system interoperability.

This is a software integration testing role-not a PLC or controls engineering position.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and execute test plans for integrations between ETAP and third-party systems.

  • Validate REST API-based exchange of electrical network models and configuration data.

  • Verify automated telemetry mapping and synchronization between SCADA and ETAP.

  • Test OPC UA communications, real-time data acquisition, and end-to-end system interoperability.

  • Collaborate with third-party software teams to troubleshoot interface and integration issues.

  • Work with product management and development teams to ensure new integration features meet functional requirements.

  • Document defects, reproduce customer issues, and support validation through product release.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 2-5 years of experience testing software integrations, industrial software, or enterprise applications.

  • Basic understanding of electrical power systems, including one-line diagrams and common electrical equipment.

  • Experience testing REST APIs using tools such as Postman, Swagger, Insomnia, or similar.

  • Familiarity with OPC UA communications and industrial data exchange.

  • Experience validating multi-system software integrations.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to coordinate across internal engineering teams and external software vendors.

  • U.S. Citizenship or permanent residency/work authorization

Desired skills

  • Experience working with SCADA, EMS, ADMS, DMS, or industrial software platforms.

  • Knowledge of telemetry, real-time data acquisition, and tag mapping concepts.

  • Familiarity with JSON, XML, and data exchange formats.

  • Understanding of authentication methods such as OAuth, API keys, and certificates.

  • Experience using network analysis tools such as Wireshark or Fiddler.

  • Experience with SQL databases and basic scripting (Python, PowerShell, or similar) for test automation.

  • Knowledge of IEC 61850, OPC UA, Modbus, or other industrial communication standards.

  • Familiarity with issue tracking systems such as Jira.

Salary Range:

65,000.00 - 105,000.00 USD Annual

This pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation that the position offers, and final compensation can vary within the range depending on work location, job experience, skills, and relevant educational attainment and/or training.

ETAP requires all successful applicants to undergo and pass a comprehensive background check before they start employment.
