Yamaha has an excellent opportunity for a Transportation Manager to join our Logistics team in Kennesaw, GA. In this role you are responsible for developing and executing the company's carrier strategy, transportation procurement activities, carrier performance management program, and freight claims process. You will ensure the organization maintains a strong, reliable, and scalable carrier network capable of meeting service, capacity, and cost objectives. The position owns strategic carrier relationships, transportation sourcing initiatives, contract negotiations, freight spend management, accessorial cost control, and carrier compliance. In this role you are accountable for monitoring and improving key carrier performance indicators including tender acceptance, on-time pickup, on-time delivery, claims performance, capacity utilization, and overall service reliability. Working closely with the Transportation Operations Manager, this position identifies systemic carrier-related operational issues and implements corrective actions that improve transportation performance, customer service, and supply chain efficiency.
What you'll be doing:
  • Develop and execute carrier sourcing, procurement, and network strategies that ensure sufficient capacity, competitive pricing, and service excellence.
  • Manage strategic carrier relationships including business reviews, performance scorecards, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead transportation procurement activities including RFQs, contract negotiations, carrier onboarding, bid events, and lane optimization efforts.
  • Manage transportation execution process and monitor carrier KPIs including tender acceptance, on-time pickup, on-time delivery, claims ratio, invoice accuracy, and service compliance.
  • Manage transportation costs including freight spend, contracted rates, fuel surcharge impacts, detention, and accessorial expenses while identifying cost reduction opportunities.
  • Own the freight claims process, including carrier claim filings, investigations, recovery efforts, root cause analysis, reporting, and corrective action implementation.
  • Collaborate with Transportation Operations and Distribution teams to identify systemic service issues and implement sustainable carrier performance solutions.
  • Develop transportation performance reporting, analytics, market intelligence reviews, and executive-level carrier performance presentations.

What you need to be successful:
  • 5 - 7 years of transportation, logistics, carrier management, transportation procurement, or supply chain experience.
  • BS/BA degree required. A degree in business, supply chain, or logistics management is strongly preferred.
  • An advanced understanding of the transportation and logistics industry.
  • Experience managing transportation contracts, carrier negotiations, and freight procurement.
  • Strong understanding of transportation pricing methodologies, accessorial structures, transportation service agreements, and carrier performance metrics.
  • Leadership experience managing people, including responsibility for performance and development,
  • Experience administering freight claims and carrier recovery processes.
  • Experience managing transportation spend and identifying cost optimization opportunities.
  • Attention to detail and good quantitative skills are required.
  • Must be able to learn and operate various computer systems across different platforms.
  • Advanced desktop computer skills to include Microsoft Office.
