Summary
Within the BGSU Firelands Writing Lab, support and enhance the learning experience for BGSU students with their academic efforts in courses with writing assignments related to a specific degree area.

Essential Functions
  • Confidentiality: all conversations, data, and work resource access may be protected
  • Establish specific availability for tutoring through NAVIGATE (including group tutoring sessions)
  • Work efficiently and effectively with limited supervision
  • Tutor students in-person and online in both individual and /or group styled learning sessions
  • Conduct online topic-based support seminars (weekly preferred)
  • Maintain a record of all tutoring sessions including names of students tutored and the course tutored
  • Promote the Teaching and Learning Center's services, especially Writing Lab support
  • Create, assist in creating, or updating study aids such as writing games, quizzes and review guides.
  • Meet with supervisor, cooperating faculty member, and professional tutor as needed for job support.
  • Possess familiarity with technology, such as NAVIGATE, Zoom, MS Teams, and CANVAS.
  • Communicate with students and supervisors in a timely, professional manner.
  • Demonstrate strong academic habits and serve as a positive role model for peers.
  • Maintain an organized office space.
  • Complete time sheets honestly and submit in a timely manner.
  • Support front desk staff with office operations including, but not limited to answering phones and assisting in-center patrons
  • Meet with Teaching and Learning Center staff at scheduled meetings.

Minimum Qualifications
Work Skills and Characteristics:
  • Demonstrate effective verbal and/or written communication skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to think critically while making decisions
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in the community
  • Demonstrate mastery command of the English language and writing skills
Qualifications:
  • Be currently enrolled at BGSU Firelands and meet enrollment requirements for your respective college.
  • Have a minimum accumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • A grade of "A" or "B" in WRIT 1120 with faculty consent.
  • Prior enrollment with the professor who is to teach the selected course is preferred.
  • Content and English language-competency.
  • Possess strong communication with writing focus, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Be committed to helping others succeed academically.

Additional Information
  • Required Availability: Must have on campus availability to meet with students during the semester as remote availability to support online classes
