Job Summary
Responsible for providing tutorial, training, and instructional support to students utilizing the Writing Lab. Assist students in developing writing, grammar, and composition skills while supporting the daily operations of the Writing Center. In-person work on campus is an essential function of this position.
Essential Functions
Under limited supervision, assist students with course-related writing assignments. Work with students individually or in small groups to review classroom material and guide them through the writing process, including brainstorming, organization, drafting, editing, and revisions.
Provide tutoring support to help students strengthen grammar, composition, research, and critical thinking skills across a variety of academic disciplines.
Assist instructors and Writing Lab staff with the preparation and organization of instructional materials, writing resources, and tutoring aids used during lab sessions and workshops.
Support the daily operations of the Writing Lab by maintaining a welcoming and productive learning environment and assisting students with accessing writing software, online learning tools, and reference materials.
Provide clerical support, including greeting visitors, answer, screen, and route telephone calls, type routine correspondence, maintaining student attendance records, tracking lab usage, organizing tutoring schedules, and assisting with the preparation of reports. Assist in arranging meetings/workshops, reserving and preparing facilities.
Maintain and create writing lab learning materials, handouts, and reference guides, ensuring they are organized and readily available for student use.
Assist with monitoring lab activities to ensure a conducive learning and academic success environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
1. Associate's Degree and two (2) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
NOTE: A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and reflect completed coursework and degrees conferred. The candidate must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application.
2. Experience providing effective customer service.
3. Proficient computer skills to include internet navigation, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
4. Effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
5. Must possess effective multi-tasking skills.
6. Effective oral and written communication skills.
7. Effective organizational and interpersonal skills.
8. Experience managing files and records.

1. This is a security-sensitive position as defined under the Texas Education Code, Section 51.215; the successful applicant will be required to undergo a criminal background check, as permitted and/or required by applicable law, and in accordance with the College's policies and procedures.

Copies of transcripts must reflect completed coursework and conferred degrees. All academic coursework and degrees must be from an accredited college or university or be certified by an acceptable agency that the institution is recognized by the appropriate governmental agency in its home country (this is generally stated in the degree evaluation).
Transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a full translation (word for word) by a current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). Additionally, each foreign transcript must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited coursework.
Applications containing foreign transcripts that are not accompanied with the above required documentation will not be considered.
In accordance with federal law and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate must furnish documentation verifying employment authorization eligibility and identity before being employed.
