Job Summary
Adjunct Paramedic Instructor to teach a six-credit-hour EMT course in-person at Perry VanKirk Career Academy to both traditional credit and dual-enrollment students for Fall Semester 2026.
Clinical experiences and oversight are coordinated separately by the program's Clinical Coordinator.
Essential Functions
Teaches assigned courses in accordance with course competencies and syllabi. Develops and/or utilizes a variety of instructional strategies, techniques and delivery methods designed to meet the individual learning styles of students. Fosters a safe and civil learning environment. Informs students about course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance policies. Monitors, evaluates, and documents student attendance, progress and competency attainment.
Required Qualifications
EMS Certification at or above the level of EMT course being taught.
EMS Instructor endorsement.
CTE instructors teaching EMS/EMT courses must also meet at least one of the following qualifications:
  1. Possess a bachelor's or graduate degree in in the area or related area of study in which the instructor teaches, or possess a bachelor's degree in any area of study if at least 18 credit hours completed were in the CTE field of instruction being taught; OR
  2. Possess an associate degree in CTE field of instruction in which the instructor is teaching, if such a degree is considered terminal for the field of instruction, and have at least 3,000 hours (approx. 1.5 years) of recent, non-teaching related work experience in the area taught; OR
  3. Have specialized training as a Registered Nurse or through EMT/EMS training at or above the level of the course being taught; and have at least 6,000 hours (or 3 years) of relevant, non-teaching work experience in the occupational field. (If the instructor is a licensed practitioner holding a CTE endorsement under Iowa Code Chapter 256, relevant work experience includes, but is not limited to, secondary CTE classroom instruction).

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a professional working relationship with a wide variety of individuals coming from varied backgrounds.

Desired Qualifications
Prior experience teaching in paramedic, EMT/EMS, fire service, or healthcare education.
Knowledge of CoAEMSP educational standards.Effective written communication and the ability to teach successfully in an online environment using common instructional technologies.
Experience working with accelerated or adult learners.
Familiarity with contracted or agency-based training environments.
Work Schedule
