Job description

The City of Lenexa Parks & Recreation Department is seeking enthusiastic and knowledgeable Certified GroupX Fitness Instructors to join our team at the Rec Center. We are currently hiring instructors for Cycle, Aqua, Yoga, Senior Fitness, and General Group Fitness classes.

Position Summary
Group Fitness Instructors are responsible for planning and leading engaging, safe, and effective workouts for participants of all fitness levels. This position fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment that supports healthy lifestyles and encourages community through group exercise.

Schedule
This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule based on class demand. We currently have openings for daytime, evening, and Saturday morning classes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver group fitness classes that meet participant needs and safety standards.
  • Promote programs through facility announcements and occasional written content.
  • Track class attendance and inspect rooms and equipment for safety concerns.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming workout environment.
  • Serve as a trained first responder at the facility when needed.
  • Attend required meetings and stay current with industry trends.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Current, nationally recognized Group Fitness Instructor certification.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire).

Starting rate of pay is $24.50 per hour.

Physical and Environmental Factors: Work takes place in a busy Recreation Center with frequent exposure to noise, humidity, and variable temperatures. Physical requirements include standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., reaching, and demonstrating exercises. Must have good flexibility, coordination, and visual acuity.

Offers of employment are contingent upon successfully passing a drug screen. A background check is required for applicants aged 18 and older.
