Job description

Job Title: Sr. SQL Developer
Location: Torrance, CA (HYBRID)
Pay rate: $ 65-68 an hour

Description:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
This role requires strong ownership of end-to-end database solutions including design, development, deployment, and production support in a regulated and audit-compliant environment.

As a Senior SQL Developer, this person will perform the following tasks, but not limited to:

  • Lead application development and production support for multiple large-scale enterprise systems
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) of production issues and implement permanent fixes to improve system stability
  • Troubleshoot Mid-tier MS SQL Server online and batch processing issues, ensuring SLA adherence
  • Evaluate and optimize daily and monthly batch processes to improve performance and reduce critical path execution time
  • Design, develop, and implement database solutions with a focus on scalability, performance, and reliability
  • Perform impact analysis across multiple platforms and applications, ensuring downstream dependencies are understood
  • Ensure data integrity, reconciliation, and control mechanisms are in place for all critical data processes
  • Deliver complete and audit-compliant documentation for estimates, design, development, and testing artifacts
  • Automate monitoring, alerting, and operational processes to improve system reliability
  • Participate in on-call production support during off-office hours (night and weekend) and handle incidents based on defined SLAs
  • Follow and enforce change management, release, and SOX/audit compliance processes

WHAT WILL THIS PERSON BE WORKING ON

  • Codes, designs, and performs unit, integration, and performance testing to ensure scalable and efficient execution aligned with business and technical requirements
  • Codes, tests, and debugs new software or makes enhancements to existing software
  • Develops and reviews programs and database objects based on business requirements and technical design specifications
  • Develops technical documentation
  • Resolves in a timely manner problems that arise with existing production applications to ensure the efficient and proper functioning of application components
  • Designs and implements scalable database structures, including data models (OLTP and dimensional models)
  • Collaborates with technical staff to learn and understand software problems
  • Generates a variety of complex and periodic reports and/or data through database management, data administration and data extraction techniques
  • Provides general system users and management with system analysis and feedback
  • Influences system design by identifying and recommending design and requirements needs for software enhancements
  • Performs advanced SQL performance tuning, including query optimization, indexing strategies, and execution plan analysis
  • Mentors and coaches less experienced staff
  • Maximizes the efficiency of the various software systems by implementing, monitoring, testing and auditing new software programs
  • Conducts code reviews and enforces development standards and best practices across the team
  • Analyzes and resolves computer related problems by coordinating with inhouse personnel to diagnose and fix operational difficulty, as well as consulting, advising and training on specialized features and functions
  • Follows established configuration/change control processes
  • Collaborates with DevOps teams to support CI/CD pipelines, version control, and automated deployment processes
  • Ensures all development activities comply with audit, security, and regulatory requirements

WANTS

  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server technologies, including T-SQL, SSIS, stored procedures, views, functions, triggers, and indexing strategies
  • Experience in Automotive Finance industry preferred
  • Strong understanding of auto finance lifecycle (loan origination, servicing, collections, accounting, end-of-term processing, and regulatory processes)
  • Familiarity with test practices and deliverables for unit testing
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently in a fast-paced production environment
  • Strong communication skills with ability to collaborate across business and technical teams
  • Ability to handle high-pressure production incidents and drive resolution to closure
  • Detail-oriented with focus on accuracy, auditability, and documentation
  • Knowledge of Salesforce Service & Marketing cloud platform is preferred
  • Experience in working in Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
  • Strong expertise in SQL performance tuning, query optimization, and database design
  • Experience with batch processing systems and performance optimization of large data volumes
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git, Azure DevOps) and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with data modeling (OLTP and Data Warehouse concepts)

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 7–10+ years of experience in SQL development and database engineering
  • Proven experience working in large-scale, high-volume transactional systems
  • Experience handling production support and incident management in enterprise environments

Required Skills:

  • 10+ years of hands-on SQL development experience in enterprise environments
  • Strong expertise in T-SQL programming and performance tuning
  • Experience supporting production systems with SLA-driven support models
  • Experience in Agile and/or Waterfall methodologies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in the Automotive Finance industry
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
  • Experience with reporting tools (SSRS, Power BI)
