Job description

Work around your school schedule!


This position is in the Design/Project Development office in Rochester. The position will work full-time in the summer and part-time during the school year, based on students' availability and the needs of the department.


Some examples of work for this position are listed below, but not limited to the following:

  • Learn and perform basic/routine design technical CADD drafting and in accordance with CADD standards and MnDOT Design Standards.
  • Conduct project background research, use and maintain project information in an efficient manner.
  • Assist preparing final design construction plans, computing pay item quantities, tabulations, and design details.
  • Learn MnDOT’s Design-Bid-Build Quality Management Process (QMP) and assist with cross-checking construction plans and quantity computations for accuracy.
  • Learn and develop foundational proficiency with Open Roads Designer (ORD) CADD software
  • Assists with project scoping; gathering data from past projects, gathering field data, field measurements and assists in the preparation of report summaries.
  • Assist preparing final design construction plans, computing pay item quantities, tabulations, and design details.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidate must be currently enrolled or enrolling within three months as a full-time student in a Civil Engineering Technology or CADD Program with a maintained GPA of at least 2.0.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to understand technical documents and follow instructions.
  • Possession of a valid Class D Driver’s License or equivalent license from another state is not required for this position. However, incumbent must be able to provide their own transportation for travel or possess a valid Class D Driver’s License to drive for state business.
  • Must be 18 years old or older.
