They use specialized software to translate medical diagnoses, procedures, and treatments into standardized codes used for insurance claims and billing purposes. These professionals ensure that healthcare providers are properly reimbursed and that patient records are accurate. They typically work for hospitals, clinics, or third-party billing companies and may interact with healthcare staff, insurance companies, and patients electronically.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an online medical billing and coding specialist?

To thrive as an Online Medical Billing and Coding Specialist, you need a solid understanding of medical terminology, healthcare reimbursement processes, and coding systems such as ICD-10 and CPT, often supported by certification like the CPC or CCS. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, medical billing software, and insurance claim platforms is typically required. Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with healthcare providers and payers help set top performers apart. These skills are crucial for ensuring accurate claims submission, reducing errors, and optimizing revenue cycles for healthcare organizations.

What are some common challenges faced by online medical billing and coding professionals, and how can they be managed?

Online Medical Billing and Coding professionals often encounter challenges such as keeping up with frequent updates to medical coding standards (like ICD-10 and CPT), ensuring accuracy in claim submissions, and managing denials from insurance companies. Job description

About QuickMD

QuickMD is a leading telemedicine provider, delivering high-quality virtual care across 44 states. Since our founding in 2019, we've helped more than 100,000 patients access essential medical treatment, with a primary focus on addiction care, and growing programs in weight management and general telehealth services. Our commitment to innovation and physician support has made us a trusted name in virtual medicine.

Physicians set their own visit schedule within a structured weekly framework, work from anywhere, and practice without the administrative overhead of a traditional office, supported by a streamlined EMR and a dedicated provider-support team. Compensation is $35 per completed consult (1099, commission-based) — $105/hour at our standard 20-minute visit length, with effective pay increasing up to $210/hour as physicians transition to shorter visit times. Our top 10% of physicians earn $260K+ annually. This role is best suited to physicians who can commit 15–20 hours per week.

Job Description

We're seeking dedicated, patient-focused physicians licensed in at least five U.S. states to join our team. Whether your background is in primary care, internal medicine, addiction medicine, emergency medicine, or urgent care, this role offers the opportunity to practice modern, high-quality medicine outside the constraints of a traditional practice. All work is fully virtual.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional virtual care, including patient assessments, medical history reviews, and appropriate treatment
  • Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care and build therapeutic doctor-patient relationships
  • Order and interpret lab tests as needed to support high-quality treatment decisions
  • Prescribe medications and provide guidance on proper use (QuickMD does not prescribe controlled substances, except buprenorphine for opioid use disorder treatment)
  • Collaborate with fellow physicians, nurse practitioners, experienced nurses, and dedicated support staff to ensure comprehensive patient care
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation to support continuity of care
  • Stay current with medical advancements, telehealth innovation, and best practices

Requirements

  • Active medical license in at least five U.S. states (preference for three or more of: AL, CA, FL, GA, NC, PA, TX), with willingness to obtain additional licenses (QuickMD covers costs and provides support)
  • Experience in telehealth or high-volume in-person practice
  • Ability to work at least 15 hours weekly, across at least four days per week, with schedules submitted one week in advance
  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to clinical excellence
  • Comfort with telemedicine platforms and EMRs (training provided)
  • Active DEA registration and applicable state CSL, where required
  • Genuine interest in expanding access to care, particularly in underserved communities

Why Physicians Choose QuickMD

  • Structured flexibility: set your own visit schedule within a predictable weekly framework; work from anywhere
  • Transparent, per-visit compensation: $35/consult; our top 10% of physicians earn $260K+ annually
  • No administrative burden: no billing, no office overhead; focus on patients
  • Fast, guided onboarding: dedicated concierge support through credentialing and setup
  • Malpractice insurance fully covered (3M/1M), with dedicated legal and compliance support
  • Modern, physician-efficient technology: EMR and telehealth tools built for high-volume virtual care
  • Meaningful clinical impact: direct role in expanding addiction treatment access to underserved communities

Physicians are engaged as independent contractors (1099); Form 1099 is issued annually. Required training, including buprenorphine/MOUD training where applicable, is completed as part of onboarding.
