Site Superintendent – Excavation & Earthwork

Wolff Excavating is seeking an experienced and driven Site Superintendent to lead field operations across excavation, earthwork, and underground utility projects.

Position Overview

The Site Superintendent is responsible for overseeing daily field operations, coordinating resources, and ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and to the highest standards. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Field Operations

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage all aspects of excavation and earthwork projects
  • Ensure materials, equipment, subcontractors, and resources are scheduled and available
  • Read and interpret plans, specifications, and soil reports
  • Coordinate permits, inspections, utility locates, traffic control, and temporary services
  • Monitor productivity, job progress, and costs, making adjustments as needed
  • Oversee site mobilization and project closeout
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation

Leadership & Team Management

  • Supervise foremen, operators, and laborers
  • Lead hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management
  • Maintain proper staffing levels and efficient scheduling
  • Enforce safety standards and promote a strong safety culture

Client & Stakeholder Relations

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, inspectors, and vendors
  • Communicate project updates and attend meetings as needed
  • Maintain clean, organized, and professional job sites

Equipment & Asset Management

  • Oversee the use, maintenance, and security of company equipment and jobsite assets

Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in excavation, earthwork, and underground utilities
  • Proven supervisory or superintendent-level experience in heavy civil construction
  • Strong understanding of safety standards
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
  • Solid math, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to meet physical job demands, including lifting 50+ lbs
