Job description

POSITION: SUBSTITUTE NURSE
SUMMARY
Provide substitute nursing coverage for absent or vacant nursing positions serving students across the district.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Utilize the nursing process as directed by the district-certificated school nurses to deliver care to students; implement and document a plan of care for each student as designed and agreed upon.
  • Assist with tasks involved in vision and hearing screening as required and in accordance with the Washington State Codes.
  • Dispense medication and maintain paperwork as required.
  • Implement student medical/emergency plans.
  • Work in cooperation with certificated and classified staff to promote medically effective, friendly and caring atmosphere for students and parents.
  • Perform other nursing duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current RN or LPN licensure with the appropriate State Board.
  • Experience in nursing duties with children is preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Ability to work with students with a wide range of behaviors, emotional disabilities, and medical conditions.
  • Must favorably pass the Washington State Patrol/FBI background check.
  • Ability to maintain health records and confidentiality of students, parents and staff members.
  • Excellent record keeping ability and clerical skills.
  • Must have excellent communications skills.
  • Must be detail oriented and a team player.
  • Ability to respond to and handle emergency situations in a calm, professional, effective manner.
  • Experience with equipment found in the school setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated skill in appropriate lifting procedures, incurring no injury to students or self.

The Salary Range for a Substitute Nurse is Min $27.05 - Max $27.05 per hour. Substitutes will accrue 1 hour of sick leave for every 40 hours worked. Substitutes who work 630 hours will become benefit eligible for the remainder of the school year. Standard benefits include: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance and Long-Term Disability. 6. After your initial screening, if selected, you will be invited to come to the District Office for substitute orientation which includes completing the fingerprint process. All selected candidates must be Board Approved.
Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be completed before employment commences. The successful candidate for this position must be fingerprinted. Employment is contingent upon clearance by the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
