Swimming Coach Role Profile

Purpose of Role

The Swimming Coach is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality swimming instruction in line with the British Curriculum Physical Education framework, while ensuring full compliance with ADEK health, safety, and safeguarding requirements. The role supports students' physical development, water confidence, and life-saving skills within a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning
  • Plan and deliver structured swimming lessons aligned with the British Curriculum PE outcomes, including water safety, stroke development, and personal survival skills.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students of varying abilities, ages, and confidence levels.

  • Assess student progress, provide feedback, and maintain accurate records of attainment and participation.

  • Promote positive attitudes towards physical fitness, teamwork, and water safety.

Student Safety & Supervision
  • Ensure active supervision of students during all swimming sessions in collaboration with the School Lifeguard.

  • Enforce pool safety rules, emergency procedures, and school policies in accordance with ADEK standards.

  • Ensure appropriate student behavior and manage routines effectively during lessons.

Health, Safety & ADEK Compliance
  • Follow all ADEK-related health, safety, and risk-assessment requirements for aquatic activities.

  • Conduct pre-lesson safety checks of teaching areas and equipment.

  • Report incidents, accidents, or concerns promptly and accurately following school procedures.

Safeguarding & Child Protection
  • Adhere strictly to the school's Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy in line with ADEK expectations.

  • Maintain professional boundaries and act as a positive role model at all times.

  • Report any safeguarding or welfare concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

Collaboration & Professional Conduct
  • Work collaboratively with PE staff, lifeguards, and school leadership to ensure safe and effective lesson delivery.

  • Communicate effectively with parents and staff when required regarding student progress and safety.

  • Participate in school events, training, and professional development as required.

Other duties and responsibilities

Any other duties that the Head of PE may from time to time ask the post-holder to perform.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Educational Qualifications Required for the Role

  • Valid Swimming Coaching Certification recognized in the UAE.

  • Current First Aid and CPR Certification.

Minimum Years of Experience Required

  • Proven experience teaching swimming, preferably in a school or youth-focused environment.

  • Familiarity with the British Curriculum PE framework and age-appropriate swimming progression.

  • Knowledge of ADEK health, safety, and safeguarding expectations in schools.

Other Requirements

  • High level of vigilance, responsibility, and professionalism.

  • Calm, decisive, and confident in emergency situations.

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

  • Physically fit with strong swimming and rescue capability.

  • Cultural awareness and respect for the school community.
