Job Summary:

The Lead Tutor position focuses on providing leadership and learner-centered tutoring support in PPSC’s Tutoring Centers. Our tutors guide students in developing independent learning skills to improve their confidence and success in the classroom. The tutor role also requires maintaining accurate documentation of tutoring sessions and actively participating in department training.
Additionally, tutors are expected to effectively communicate with college personnel to help promote and further develop our services. In addition to tutoring, Lead Tutors serve in a mentorship role for the department and are responsible for the onboarding and evaluation of its’ tutor and Front Desk employees. This position reports to one of two Coordinators of Academic Tutoring. Flexibility in this role and adherence to Pikes Peak State College’s and the Academic Resource’s division staff policies is expected.
This is a temporary part-time hourly position, not to exceed 28 hours per week. Position availability will vary by campus and tutoring subjects.

Tutoring Responsibilities
• Provide learner-centered tutoring support in-person at a PPSC campus usually within a designated Tutoring Center
• Conduct individual or group tutoring in-person by appointment or drop-in usually within a designated Tutoring Center
• Online tutoring may be asked of this position in special circumstances
• Ensure effective tutoring methodologies are being utilized with a strong emphasis on understanding and supporting the student/teacher relationship
• Conduct classroom visits to market and promote services and/or to provide tutoring support in the classroom.
• Maintain effective communication with supervisors and department staff
• Must use Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Outlook (PPSC Work Email), and Navigate360 while working and utilize systems to effectively
communicate with supervisors, department staff and students.
• Must report on tutoring sessions within Navigate360 in an accurate and timely manner
• Required to work a minimum of 8 hours per week
• Attend all required Tutoring Department trainings
• Paid participation in professional development opportunities when held during scheduled work hours
• Under the direction of a Coordinator of Academic Tutoring, conduct classroom visits to promote services and/or to tutoring support in the classroom
• Help the Center’s Front Desk team keep the tutoring space clean and materials up to date
• Adhere to student and staff policies as determined by Pikes Peak State College, Academic Resources Division and Tutoring Department.
• Perform other duties as assigned by a tutoring supervisor
Lead Tutor Responsibilities
• Support supervisor in managing and training department staff
• Assigned staff within the Tutoring Center Department and are required to conduct staff observations
• Monitors staff performance and administers corrective actions or policy guidance as necessary
• Lead sessions during all required Tutoring Department trainings
• Serve as point of contact for their tutoring subjects and is responsible for creating and implementing standards for their subjects
• Under the direction of a Coordinator of Academic Tutoring, communicate and collaborate with academic departments to promote services or stay current on best practices
• Scheduled to work a maximum of 28 hours per week 
• Expected to work opening or closing shifts

• Perform other lead duties as assigned by a tutoring supervisor

Competencies/KSAs:

• Ability to navigate differences effectively and respectfully in the workplace.
• Adhere to college policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:

• One year of experience as a paid college level tutor
• Must have held a successful prior tutoring position at Pikes Peak State College
• Experience training or onboarding new staff
• At least a 3.0 Cumulative GPA at the time of application

• List subjects (i.e. English or Math) and course (i.e. College English Composition 1 or College Algebra) able to tutor in the Cover Letter
• Attached unofficial college transcripts that show completed grade of a “B” or better in all tutoring subjects listed in the Cover Letter
Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge. Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.

• Experience in a paid leadership or supervisory role
• Engagement in professional development and being a life-long learner
• Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff from diverse backgrounds
• Ability to read, write, and speak fluent Spanish 

Selection Process:

This is a temporary part-time hourly position, not to exceed 28 hours per week.
