Job description

GENERAL STATEMENT: An individual in this class supports the delivery of instruction at adistance learning facility. The assistant facilitates the interaction between the student and thedistant learning instructor. This individual assists in the monitoring of student behavior and class participation. Assistants are expected to be familiar with the functioning of system hardware toensure satisfactory program transmission during instructional hours. The assistant is responsiblefor the distribution and collection of instructional materials.

QUALIFICATIONS: Associates degree or higher from an institution of higher education or 48 semester hours completed toward a degree. Must possess knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with students in a technology setting. Preferred, Two years of computer, related experience or classroom experience. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be willing to obtain and maintain a bus license.. Must hold a valid North Carolina driver's license.

JOB DUTIES: 

? Provides an orientation for all first-time NCVPS students so that they understand the expectations of the program and the school along with students and parent information and support sessions. 

? Participates and leads virtual open houses that are teacher driven and/or community organized. 

? Monitors all NCVPS students via their gradebook. 

? Monitors students taking Mitchell Community College & I-SS online classes.

? Communicates and follows up with online instructors as to student support issues around grades, class attendance, participation, and other processes such as re-test requirements. 

? Coordinate the ordering, (partnering with district and school textbook coordinators) issuing, tracking, and collecting of textbooks and instructional materials for NCVPS courses. 

? Gathers course requirements from NCVPS-supplied documents in order to prepare students to succeed in courses.

? Take responsibility or assist with students who take instruction in a lab setting at the school. 

? Coordinates all registration of students enrolled in NCVPS/LEO courses for all technology related systems. 

? Coordinates with the schools' Data Manager to make sure that all courses and grades are placed on the student's report card and transcript. 

? Works with the school's testing coordinator to coordinate any testing that is mandated by the course or by the state. 

? Supervise the online students in a classroom setting. 

? Support and Proctor Testing 

? Troubleshoots problems with computers and other equipment; may independently solve minor problems or seek assistance from appropriate technical professionals. ? Student coaching with time management 

? Performs various clerical duties as needed

? Attend staff development opportunities 

? Attend district provided professional development for Distance Learning Advisors ? Attend all required staff meetings. 

? Performs other related work as required. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Physical Requirements: Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom toolssuch as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment forchildren with special needs, etc. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of forcefrequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Due to theamount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent withthose for Light Work.

Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable,functional, structural, or composite characteristics (whether similar to or divergent fromobvious standards) of data, people or things.

Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people toconvey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments, and/ordirections from superiors.

Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports,forms, journals, etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, forms, records, etc.,using prescribed format.

Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply rational systems to solve practical problemsand deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limitedstandardization exists; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral,diagrammatic, or schedule form.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explainprocedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicateeffectively and efficiently in Standard English.

Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add andsubtract; multiply and divide; and to determine percentages and decimals.

Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width,and shape.

Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly andaccurately in using automated office equipment.

Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment,control knobs, switches, etc. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades ofcolor.

Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond givingand receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and whenconfronted with persons acting under stress.

Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing orexchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds byear). Must be able to communicate via telephone.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

? Working knowledge of computers and related instructional technology devices. ? Ability to troubleshoot minor problems with computer equipment.

? Ability to maintain complete and accurate records.
