Class Description

Fundamentals of Communication (CMNS 101) Adjunct Faculty are needed to teach asynchronous online courses for the Community College of Baltimore County. Adjunct faculty will be expected to facilitate already built online courses (institutional course shell) in Communication.
Fundamentals of Communication is the second most highly enrolled general education course at CCBC. This is a survey course that covers a variety of communication topics, including: interpersonal communication, interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, small group communication, and public speaking.
Adjunct faculty will be available to help students during one online office hour each week (for each class), communicate regularly with students using the school's learning management system, will cooperate with College support staff by timely submission of grades and coordinate activities with the Department Chairperson or discipline coordinator and are encouraged to participate in professional development, particularly in online learning.
Pay Level: $1,110 per credit hour
Minimum Requirements
A Master's degree in Communication, Communication Studies, Speech Communication, Speech, or a closely related field or a Master's degree in another discipline with at least 18 graduate credits in required in Communication, Communication Studies, Speech Communication, Speech, or a closely related field. Experience in facilitating online learning classes preferred and two (2) years prior teaching experience required. Excellent verbal and written communications skills required.
Interested candidates must provide documentation of online learning training at the time of application. Should a candidate not have prior experience facilitating an online learning course, upon being hired, the candidate must complete CCBC's Teaching Online Course prior to the start of the semester.
Position Specific Essential Duties
  1. Effectively communicate course objectives, requirements, and expectations to students using weekly announcements.
  2. Facilitate interactive and dynamic online discussions, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
  3. Utilize appropriate technologies and online platforms to deliver course content and engage students effectively.
  4. Provide timely and constructive feedback on assignments, papers, and class work to guide student learning and success.
  5. Maintain regular and consistent communication with students through online channels, such as email and discussion forums.
  6. Ensure adherence to course syllabus, academic policies, and established curriculum guidelines.
  7. Use innovative teaching strategies and resources to enhance student engagement and understanding of communication principles.
  8. Assess and evaluate student performance, including grading assignments, exams, and other assessments in a timely manner.
  9. Collaborate with other faculty members and participate in departmental meetings or training sessions as required.
  10. Provide support and guidance to students, addressing their academic needs and concerns promptly.
  11. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other relevant data as per CCBC policies.
  12. Adhere to college policies, procedures, and ethical standards, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.

  • Roth 403(b) is a savings feature that is available when you open a 403(b) account. The Roth 403(b) savings feature allows employees to contribute after-tax dollars and then withdraw tax-free dollars from their account upon retirement. The Roth 403(b) savings feature is only offered by the following vendors: TIAA-CREF and VOYA Financial Advisors, Inc. Adjunct Faculty, Part Time Associates and Full Time employees are eligible to save for retirement using the Roth 403(b) savings feature. Employees may contribute traditional pre-tax 403(b) dollars and Roth 403(b) post-tax dollars simultaneously. The savings limits are combined for the Traditional 403(b) and the Roth 403(b) contributions.
