What is an online computer vision specialist?

An Online Computer Vision specialist is a professional who designs and implements computer vision algorithms and systems that process images or videos in real-time over the internet or cloud platforms. Their work often involves developing applications for object detection, facial recognition, image classification, and video analysis that operate efficiently in online or streaming environments. These specialists need strong skills in programming, machine learning, and computer vision frameworks, and they often collaborate with data scientists and software engineers to deploy scalable solutions. Online Computer Vision is commonly used in industries such as security, healthcare, retail, and autonomous vehicles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an online computer vision engineer?

To excel as an Online Computer Vision Engineer, you need a solid background in computer science, machine learning, and image processing, typically supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with deep learning frameworks (such as TensorFlow or PyTorch), experience with OpenCV, and proficiency in programming languages like Python or C++ are crucial. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set top performers apart in this role. These competencies enable the development of accurate, scalable computer vision solutions that drive innovation in real-time, online environments.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in online computer vision roles?

Professionals in online computer vision often encounter challenges such as processing large volumes of visual data in real-time and ensuring high accuracy in diverse and unpredictable environments. They must also address latency and bandwidth constraints when deploying models over the internet, and regularly update algorithms to keep up with evolving data patterns. Collaboration with data engineers, software developers, and product teams is essential to integrate vision solutions into scalable systems and deliver user-centric results.

Duranta is an applied AI lab changing the way the world sees the world. Our flagship foundation computer vision model, Aidan, measures and understands the world in 4D, redefining how industries interact with the physical world through Artificial Spatial Intelligence. Duranta's founding team have built unicorns, had successful exits and published groundbreaking research within the field of computer vision. We are seeking a Senior Computer Vision Engineer to join our team.
Who you'll be working with:
  • Dr. Amir Zamir - maker of 4M, Taskonomy, FlexToK, winner of Best Paper award (CVPR, SIGGRAPH)
  • Dr. Romann Bachmann - maker of MultiMAE, collaborator on MODUS, winner young investigator award
  • A team of engineers and scientists with backgrounds from University of Toronto, Stanford, EPFL, ASU and NYU

You will also work closely with the founding team on deep learning research and deployment across semantic and instance segmentation, few-shot learning, 3D reasoning and generative modeling. Specifically, you will be responsible for contributing to the development of our computer vision pipelines for extracting comprehensive intelligence from optical imagery.
RESPONSIBILITIES & FOCUS AREAS
  • Building the components of a state-of-the-art computer vision pipeline for our AI system

  • Run experiments at scale with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch
  • Develop and maintain clean, modular ML infrastructure
  • Collaborate on model deployment and inference optimizations
  • Read and reproduce ideas from latest papers (CVPR, NeurIPS and other similar top-tier venues)

YOU WILL THRIVE IF YOU HAVE
  • Have 5+ years experience in ML / deep learning, ideally in Computer Vision
  • Have strong coding ability (Python, PyTorch)
  • Have trained segmentation/detection models on real-world data at scale
  • Have experience with generative modeling and large foundation models
  • Have worked in startups or fast-moving teams and can wear many hats

AND FOR EXTRA CREDIT...
