Compensation

Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator and Lab Demonstrator positions are paid according to the qualifications that the employee holds.

  • Employees who do NOT hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate - $23.30per hour.(Rate effective September 1, 2026)

  • Employees who hold a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate - $36.67per hour.(Rate effective September 1, 2026)

  • In cases whereadditionalduties are required as part of a Teaching Assistant's duties, these hours shall be compensated at theappropriate TeachingAssistant rate.

Duties

The duties and responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant shall be in accordance with Article 22 of the CUPE Local 4207, Unit 1, Collective Agreement. These are made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (including preparation of seminar material, student consultation, marking or grading, examination proctoring, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required.

Qualifications

  • Proven competency in the subject matter, with demonstrated track record encompassing ALL three main areas: ADVANCED STATISTICS, PYTHON PROGRAMING/CODING & R PROGRAMING/CODING.
  • Previous experience as a TA.
  • Demonstrated evidence of working with students in an advisory and/or tutoring capacity, in quantitative and technical areas.
  • Demonstrated evidence of managing online courses - including, but not limited to, the following competencies: lecturing and managing large online audiences in an instructional setting, including lectures, seminars and workshops.
  • Demonstrated evidence of evaluating student work in online courses - including demonstrable competencies in assigning, managing, grading, and advising pertinent to online student assessment items.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and familiarity with ALL functions of Brightspace is an important requirement, including all document posting, and assessment and assignment management utilities - including posting, grading, commenting, publishing and information management functions connected to those utilities.
  • All applications must be accompanied by comprehensive documentation for demonstrated and specific accounts of past accomplishments pertinent to the points above.
