POSITION SUMMARY/CLASS DESCRIPTION

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Under the general supervision of the Pool Manager and the Aquatics Supervisor, the Assistant Pool Manager is responsible for operating the aquatic facility and manage the lifeguards and swim instructors.
DUTIES:
  1. Maintain a clean, safe and orderly facility. Inspect facility regularly and report any unsafe conditions/equipment to supervisor immediately. Enforce center and aquatic facility rules and regulations.
  2. Be knowledgeable about pool operations and administer pump room procedures including chemical readings, balancing and filtration to meet health codes.
  3. Rescue swimmers in distress and respond to incidents around the entire aquatic facility immediately. Provide care to the best of your ability within the level of your training/qualifications.
  4. Assist in planning, scheduling and assigning work. Determine job priorities and assist with the coordination of staff assignments based on the needs.
  5. Assist in training and evaluating lifeguards and swim instructors.
  6. Manage swim instructors during swim lessons. When necessary, instruct swimming lessons for participants of all ages and abilities.
  7. Work shifts as a Lifeguard and follow the expectations of the position.
  8. Provide general information on pool operations to guests and caution swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards.
  9. Maintain personal physical endurance and agility necessary to perform job functions.
  10. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, including abiding to uniform requirements.
  11. Maintain professional communication with guests.
  1. Responsible for the full management of the aquatic facility in the absence of the Supervisor.
  2. Implement emergency actions plans for the Center.
  3. Completes, reviews and submits Incident, Injury, Accident, or other related reports to their supervisor.
  4. Participate in all mandatory staff meetings and trainings.
  5. Complete additional duties assigned by supervisors.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
  • Certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
  • Certified Howard County Pool Operator.
  • Must be at least 19 years of age.
  • Pre-employment/employment testing of lifeguarding skills and knowledge (including but not limited to swim-tread-swim sequence totaling 200 yards, ability to tread water for 2 minutes without hands, back-boarding skills, swim 20 yards - pick up 10-pound brick off bottom and swim it back within 1 minute and 40 seconds, lifeguard written test).
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to work as an individual and within the framework of a team.

EDUCATION:
High school diploma; some college preferred.
RATE OF PAY:
Contingent - Paraprofessional
Salary commensurate with experience
$16.00 - $21.00 per hour
