Digital Assignment Producer
WINK News – Fort Myers, Florida
WINK News, Southwest Florida’s News Leader, has an immediate opening for a Digital Assignment Producer. This position combines the responsibilities of an assignment editor with digital producing and social media execution. The ideal candidate will have strong news judgment, organizational skills, and the ability to identify, develop, and distribute content across broadcast, digital, streaming, and social platforms.
The Digital Assignment Producer will help coordinate daily news coverage, dispatch crews, enterprise stories, monitor scanners and social media, verify information, and ensure content is published quickly and accurately across all platforms. This role serves as a key bridge between the assignment desk, producers, reporters, and the digital team.
Candidates should possess a solid understanding of newsgathering technology including ENG/SNG operations, ENPS, social media platforms, website CMS tools, and online research techniques. A college degree and previous newsroom experience are preferred.
Key Responsibilities
News Gathering & Assignment Desk
  • Monitor scanners, social media, news wires, public safety communications, and community sources to identify breaking news and story opportunities.
  • Coordinate daily coverage assignments and assist in deploying reporters, photographers, and live crews.
  • Develop enterprise story ideas and maintain strong relationships with community contacts and news sources.
  • Research, verify, and fact-check information for developing stories.
  • Track breaking news and provide real-time updates to newsroom leadership.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date information in newsroom systems and planning tools.
  • Assist in planning coverage for major events, severe weather, elections, and special projects.
Digital & Social Media Responsibilities
  • Create, write, publish, and update content for WINKNews.com, mobile platforms, and streaming channels.
  • Write compelling digital headlines, push alerts, and social media copy.
  • Monitor audience engagement, social trends, and emerging conversations to identify content opportunities.
  • Execute daily social media strategy across platforms including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X and other emerging platforms.
  • Coordinate breaking news coverage on digital and social channels to ensure timely updates.
  • Assist in publishing video clips, livestreams, and digital-exclusive content.
  • Work with reporters and producers to maximize the reach of newsroom content across broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Identify opportunities for digital-first and social-first storytelling.
  • Monitor website and social performance metrics and provide feedback on audience trends and content performance.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Work closely with producers, reporters, photographers, editors, and digital staff to ensure comprehensive coverage.
  • Communicate developing story information clearly and efficiently to newsroom personnel.
  • Help coordinate coverage plans during breaking news and severe weather situations.
  • Collaborate with newsroom leadership to align coverage priorities across television, digital, streaming, and social platforms.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous newsroom, digital publishing, assignment desk, or social media experience preferred.
  • Strong news judgment and understanding of journalistic ethics.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and make decisions in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, audience engagement, and digital content strategies.
  • Experience with newsroom systems such as ENPS and content management systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with digital analytics tools and social media management platforms is a plus.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as news coverage requires.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit or work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Clear verbal and written communication in person, by phone, and via video.
  • Able to lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Visual and auditory ability to operate standard office equipment.
