Job Summary:
The focus of ย ย responsibility for the Animal Care Tech I is to provide of extended animal ย ย care and ensure wellbeing of all residents, to learn the routine for the Admissions, ย ย Rehab center and Adoption buildings. Some ย ย responsibilities of the Animal Care Tech I include, using approved protocols, ย ย the cleaning and monitoring of the animal holding areas/kennels/animal ย ย transport vehicles/building/grounds. ย Feeding/watering ย ย the animals. Maintain a welcoming and sanitary ย ย environment. PM dog walking. Washing ย ย of dishes and laundry. Supporting the Animal Care Tech Lead and Animal Care ย ย Manager as needed. Report changes in animal behavior and health to the office ย ย teams so that appropriate notes can be entered into the animal's record. Monitor animals for signs of illness and ย ย take appropriate steps to facilitate needed care.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:ย
Cleaning of the ย ย animal holding areas/kennels/animal transport vehicles/building/grounds and ย ย dog parks.ย
General Animal Care, ย ย taking in considerations Residents, mental health and wellbeing.
Washing of bowls/litter ย ย pans/other animal equipment.
Learn common ย ย shelter diseases and symptoms.
Follow cleaning ย ย flow.
Learn location, ย ย proper use and sanitation procedures for safety equipment.
Learn the ย ย process for healthy vs. infected laundry and dishes.
Properly complete ย ย Rounds.
Ensure that ย ย individual animal nutritional needs are met.
Watering of ย ย animals.
Assist Behavior Team with AM playgroups.
Watch the ย ย following videos and attend trainings: Shelter Tour, Dog Walking Handling and ย ย Socializing, Cat Diseases, Dog Diseases, Fear Free and Fight Training.
Understand the ย ย information on the kennel cards.
Monitoring of ย ย animals for health and/or behavioral issues and immediately reporting of ย ย animal health or behavior concerns to supervisor and/or office team member.
Assist in ย ย Compassion Services including but not limited to cremations/cleaning freezers ย ย and crematorium.
Dog walking.
As needed, assist ย ย in the transfer process including but not limited to the intake procedure/loading ย ย and unloading of vehicles and all equipment.
Communicating ย ย effectively, both written and orally, with the public, staff and management ย ย regarding policy, procedure, behavior and animal welfare issues.ย
Participating ย ย in on-going education/training, including, but not limited to, on-line ย ย courses and in-person seminars whenever required.
Promoting ย ย at all times, both internally & externally, a positive attitude and image ย ย regarding the Shelter and its practices.
Performing ย ย related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Maintaining ย ย compliance with all policies and procedures.ย
Study and learn SFAS operations policies and procedures including the personnel manual.ย
Requirements
Job Requirements:ย
To complete The fear free shelter course within 90 ย ย days of employment.
To complete The Fear free shelter course of Housing ย ย and environment within 90 days of employment.
To complete Dog handling/ leash training within the ย ย first 60 days of employment.
Regular ย ย attendance as scheduled on time and ready to work.
Schedule flexibility, ย ย including weekends & Holidays.
Communication ย ย skills including ability to effectively communicate with internal and ย ย external customers/staff/patrons/volunteers.
Ability to ย ย work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters ย ย of instructions given, prescribed routines and time constraints.
Ability to use chemicals including but not limited to ย ย bleach/quaternary ammonium cleaning solutions (chemical used to kill ย ย bacteria, viruses and mold, stabilized hydrogen peroxide.
Handling of animals including but not limited to cats/dogs/rodents/small ย ย mammals/rabbits/poultry/reptiles.
Physical Requirements:ย
Ability to ย ย safely and successfully perform the essential job functionsย
Must be able to ย ย lift and carry up to 50 lbs.ย
Must be able to ย ย talk, listen and speak clearly with co-workers/volunteers/customers
Walking, bending, twisting for as much as 8 to 10 hours per day
Must be able to ย ย be on your feet up to 4 hours at a time 8 to 10 hours per day
Must be able to ย ย tolerate odor, noise, allergens and cleaning chemicals.
