Online 3D Artists focus on creating 3D assets for digital platforms, often working remotely and handling a variety of projects. 3D Modelers specialize in building detailed 3D models, typically within specific industries like gaming or film. While both roles require similar skills and software knowledge, Online 3D Artists often have a broader scope, including rendering and animation, whereas 3D Modelers concentrate on the modeling process itself.

What is an online 3D artist?

Online 3D Artists are creative professionals who use specialized software to design, model, and render three-dimensional objects and scenes for digital platforms. They work on projects such as video games, animations, virtual reality experiences, product visualizations, and online advertising. These artists often collaborate remotely with teams, using their technical and artistic skills to bring concepts to life in a digital space. Their work requires proficiency in 3D modeling tools, a strong understanding of visual storytelling, and the ability to adapt to various styles and project requirements.

What are some typical challenges online 3D artists face when collaborating remotely with development teams?

Online 3D Artists often work with geographically dispersed teams, which can make communication and feedback loops more challenging. Ensuring that 3D assets are compatible with game engines or platforms, adhering to project specifications, and staying in sync with animators, programmers, and art directors requires clear documentation and regular virtual meetings. Using collaborative tools like version control systems and asset management platforms helps streamline workflows, but artists must stay organized and adapt to evolving project needs. Flexibility and proactive communication are key to overcoming these common remote collaboration hurdles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an online 3D artist, and why are they important?

To excel as an Online 3D Artist, you need proficiency in 3D modeling, texturing, and rendering, often supported by a degree in art, design, or related fields. Mastery of industry-standard software such as Blender, Autodesk Maya, 3ds Max, and Adobe Creative Suite is typically required, along with a strong digital portfolio. Creativity, attention to detail, time management, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating remotely and meeting client expectations. These abilities are vital for producing high-quality digital assets, adhering to project timelines, and succeeding in a competitive online marketplace.

Job description

Let’s Go Murals is a commercial mural company building a nationwide roster of experienced Mural Pros—the artists who bring our approved designs to life on real walls for real clients.

We handle the client relationship, creative direction, design, and project logistics. You focus on executing the mural accurately, professionally, and on schedule.

This is a freelance, project-based opportunity—not a full-time or salaried position. Joining our roster does not guarantee a minimum number of projects or hours. When an opportunity matches your experience, availability, and location, we may contact you with the project details.

Travel, lodging, and per diem are covered for qualifying projects that require travel.

What You’ll Do

As a Mural Pro, you may be responsible for:

  • Reviewing the approved artwork, project specifications, and site information before arrival to ensure everything is ready for installation.
  • Selecting the appropriate paint colors to accurately represent the approved design.
  • Preparing surfaces and work areas for painting.
  • Transferring the approved design accurately to scale using an appropriate transfer method.
  • Painting efficiently, staying on schedule, and maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship.
  • Managing your on-site workflow and completing the project within the agreed timeline.
  • Communicating clearly with the Let’s Go Murals team throughout the project.
  • Following site requirements and maintaining a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
  • Protecting surrounding surfaces and leaving the site as clean as—or cleaner than—you found it.
  • Documenting progress and completed work when requested.

You will not be responsible for designing or redesigning the artwork. Your role is to execute the approved design accurately at scale.

Required Qualifications

You must have:

  • Previous professional experience completing murals or comparable artwork on a large scale.
  • A portfolio demonstrating completed mural-format work.
  • The ability to execute another artist’s approved design accurately at scale.
  • A strong understanding of color theory.
  • Experience with surface preparation, masking, cleanup, and other mural-production fundamentals.
  • The ability to work independently, manage your time, and meet firm deadlines.
  • Clear, reliable communication and a professional approach when working at client locations.
  • The physical ability to perform mural work, including standing for extended periods and working at height.
  • Comfort using ladders, scaffolding, or lifts when required and properly trained or authorized.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for select projects.
  • Reliable transportation when required for local assignments.

Engagement Details

  • Opportunities are offered on a project-by-project basis, and you may accept or decline individual assignments based on your availability.
  • Work may be local or require travel.
  • Project scope, schedule, location, compensation, and covered expenses will be shared before you accept an assignment.

Sound Like You?

If you have professional mural experience, are confident executing approved designs at scale, and are comfortable representing Let’s Go Murals on-site, we’d love to see your work.
