Job description

Position Summary:

Hamilton-Madison House (HMH) is the leading provider of behavioral health services for New York Cityโ€™s Asian community and the second largest provider in the country. HMH serves nearly 1,000 community members through a comprehensive program model that understands and incorporates the strengths of individual cultures and addresses the stigma related to mental illness. Services range from psychological services; personalized recovery-oriented services for individuals with mental illness; recovery programming for addiction in six languages and seven dialects; supportive housing for people with mental health issues; and training and internship opportunities for graduate students in social work, mental health counseling, and psychology.

HMH is collaborating with the Teacherโ€™s College of Columbia University to embark on a research project to implement the Family Check-Up for Suicide Prevention (FCU-SP). The aim of the study is to deliver the FCU-SP for Asian American adolescents (ages 11 to 17) at risk for suicide and their families. As part of the team, you will deliver the FCU to Asian American at-risk youth and their families at Hamilton-Madison House, a community based behavioral health center located in the Chinatown and Lower East Side neighborhoods of Manhattan.

Responsibilities:

  • Learn to deliver the FCU-SP intervention to fidelity
  • Administer suicide risk assessments and the Self-Injurious Thoughts and Behaviors Interview (SITBI) with youth
  • Develop safety plans with youth
  • Conduct strengths-based family assessments
  • Apply assessment results to form a case conceptualization
  • Provide feedback to families on strengths and areas of improvement when it comes to parenting practices, family relationships, and child behaviors as well as recommendations for services
  • Incorporate motivational strategies into work with families
  • Support parents/caregivers in the development or enhancement of parenting skills through the Everyday Parenting curriculum
  • Receive weekly supervision related to the FCU-SP project, and as required by Hamilton-Madison House
  • Maintain medical records documentation according to HMH and the Office of Mental Health policies and procedures
  • Comply with all agency, City, State and Federal regulatory and compliance standards

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or PsyD in clinical, counseling, or school psychology preferred; masterโ€™s degree in mental health counseling, social work, or related field also considered, with sufficient training and experience, and sufficient supervisory support
  • Bilingual in English and Mandarin and/or Cantonese
  • Experience working with a high-risk youth population, administering risk assessments and developing safety plans
  • Training and experience in the use of Motivational Interviewing strongly preferred

Compensation: $52,000 to $55,000 depending on education and experience

Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours/week
