Once A Week information

What does a Once a Week job mean?

A 'Once A Week' job refers to a position or role where the employee or worker is only required to work one day per week, rather than on a typical full-time or part-time schedule. These jobs are ideal for individuals seeking supplemental income, those with other commitments, or people who wish to maintain a flexible schedule. Common examples include weekend retail shifts, tutoring, cleaning services, or freelance assignments scheduled weekly. The specific responsibilities and pay can vary depending on the industry and employer.

What are the typical responsibilities and expectations for a Once a Week position?

A 'Once A Week' role typically involves part-time or project-based responsibilities that need to be completed during a single day each week. Commonly, such positions require strong time management skills and the ability to work independently, as you may not be on-site or in contact with the team daily. Tasks could include recurring duties like inventory checks, administrative updates, or client meetings, depending on the industry. Communication is often asynchronous, so clear reporting and documentation are valued. While the position is less frequent, reliability and accountability are essential, since you're responsible for critical tasks within a limited timeframe.

Job description

Cashier – Full Time

Non-Seasonal Position

Who We Are
Since 1977, we’ve been a family-owned fixture on Indianapolis’s north side—three locations strong (Carmel, Geist, Fishers) and deeply rooted in our community. We built our reputation by blending modern retail practices with a genuine commitment to our neighbors. Every day, our team puts on a red vest, knowing they’ll help someone tackle a home, garden, or DIY project. We value collaboration, practical solutions, and fresh ideas—and we’re looking for people who feel the same. If you’re driven by helping others, you’ll thrive at White’s Ace.

Why You’ll Want to Work Here

  • Hands-On Training
You don’t need prior register training or retail/hardware experience—what matters most is a love of helping people and a great attitude. However, if you’ve worked in retail or hardware or have previous register experience, that background will help you hit the ground running.
  • Clear Path to Growth
Many of our current leaders began in different roles and, by showing initiative and a willingness to learn, have worked their way into various positions, including management.
  • Predictable Schedule
We post schedules once a week in advance, and they rarely change, so you can count on consistency. You’ll work day shifts with one weekday and one weekend day off each week making it easier to plan around family, school, or other commitments.

Competitive Pay and Perks

  • Hourly Rate: $14.00
  • Retirement Program
  • Paid Vacation, Holiday, and Sick Days
  • Bi-Annual Performance Bonus
  • 40 Hour Fixed Schedule (posted one week in advance; rarely changes)
  • Hands-On Training Program
  • 15% Store Discount
  • Company-Supplied Clothing

What You’ll Do

  • Operate the cash register: scan items, process cash/credit/check payments, and handle returns/exchanges efficiently and accurately.
  • Greet every customer with a smile, listen to their questions, and help direct them to the proper area or help when possible.
  • Bag merchandise and help customers load purchases into carts or vehicles as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and visual order of the checkout and impulse areas.
  • Occasionally rotate into merchandising shifts: restock shelves, straighten displays, and helping with other tasks throughout the store.

Who You Are

  • You genuinely enjoy talking with people and finding practical solutions to their questions or problems.
  • You pick up new information quickly, ask questions when unsure, and aren’t afraid to make small mistakes as you learn.
  • You work well with others—helping out across departments without waiting to be asked.
  • You’re reliable, consistently showing up for your scheduled daily shifts.
  • You can lift up to 50 lbs. safely and remain on your feet for most of an eight-hour shift.
