Job description

Hutton Digital is the digital marketing agency division of Hutton Broadcasting, helping local and regional clients grow their online presence through search, content, and web performance strategy. We’re looking for a detail-oriented SEO Associate to support our client SEO program and our Hutton City Sites network.

Position Summary

The SEO Associate is responsible for executing technical SEO, on-page optimization, and content publishing across a portfolio of client websites, while also supporting the operations of Hutton’s City Sites network. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role ideal for someone with foundational SEO/GEO experience who is ready to grow into a broader digital strategy career. This position splits time and responsibilities between two teams and reports to two managers depending on the workstream.

Key Responsibilities Client SEO (reports to SEO Manager)
  • Perform technical SEO audits and remediation (site speed, crawlability, indexation, structured data/schema markup, XML sitemaps, redirects, mobile usability, etc.)
  • Work directly within WordPress to implement technical SEO fixes, manage redirects, and maintain proper site structure and internal linking
  • Publish new website and blog content following SEO and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) best practices to improve visibility in traditional and AI-driven search results
  • Conduct on-page SEO optimization (titles, meta descriptions, headers, internal linking, keyword targeting, content structure) to improve client site rankings and organic performance
  • Monitor and report on keyword rankings, organic traffic, and site health using tools such as Google Search Console, Google Analytics 4, and third-party SEO platforms
  • Identify performance issues and opportunities, and recommend/implement fixes to improve client outcomes
Hutton City Sites (reports to City Site Content Manager)
  • Manage local event listings and content calendars across the City Sites network
  • Manage and update plugins, ensuring functionality, security, and performance
  • Perform on-page SEO and GEO optimization to improve visibility and engagement on City Sites
  • Monitor site performance, uptime, and search metrics, flagging and resolving issues as needed
  • Support general site operations and content maintenance as directed by the City Site Content Manager
  • Run regular Site Audits in Ahrefs across our portfolio of city properties; systematically diagnose, prioritize, and resolve technical SEO errors, broken links (404s), redirect chains, and indexing flags.
Qualifications
  • 1–2 years of professional experience in SEO, digital marketing, or a related field
  • Working knowledge of SEO fundamentals (technical, on-page, and off-page) and familiarity with GEO/AI search optimization concepts
  • Required: Technical proficiency in WordPress, including page/post management, plugin configuration, menus, and basic troubleshooting
  • Required: Hands-on experience with Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Google Search Console
  • Working knowledge of redirects, internal linking strategy, and website/site structure best practices
  • Experience with additional SEO tools such as SEMrush, Ahrefs, Moz, or similar platforms
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to create or edit content for search performance
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects/clients and reporting to more than one manager
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to meet deadlines independently
  • Basic understanding of HTML/CSS a plus
  • Demonstrates strong resourcefulness: capable of researching, troubleshooting, and resolving obstacles independently before escalating.
  • A self-directed, proactive operator who efficiently manages their time, prioritizes tasks, and maintains momentum without needing excessive guidance and oversight.
  • Thrives in a lean, fast-paced environment; comfortable wearing multiple hats and adapting quickly as priorities shift.
  • Energized by collective problem-solving and cross-functional teamwork, bringing a “can-do” attitude, dependability, and accountability.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of process discipline and reading comprehension: is comfortable following established standard operating procedures (SOPs), checklists, and written project briefs to ensure consistent output.
