As of Jul 22, 2026, the average yearly pay for on camera audiences in the United States is $28,124.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $28,000.00 and $28,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an On-Camera Audience Member, and why are they important?

To thrive as an On-Camera Audience Member, you need reliability, punctuality, and the ability to follow instructions, with casting agencies often seeking individuals with enthusiasm and a presentable appearance. Familiarity with production set protocols and basic NDA agreements are sometimes required, though formal certifications are not typically necessary. Strong energy, positive attitude, and the ability to respond naturally to cues (such as applause or laughter) set standout audience members apart. These skills ensure a lively, engaging atmosphere for recordings or live shows, directly impacting the overall viewer experience.

What are On Camera Audiences?

On Camera Audiences are groups of people who are present during the filming of television shows, live tapings, or events and are often visible on camera. Their reactions, such as applause and laughter, enhance the show's atmosphere and can influence the energy of the performers. Being part of an on camera audience can involve following specific instructions from production staff to help create the desired mood for the broadcast. Tickets for these audiences are often free and available to the public, but may require advance reservations.

What should I expect when working as part of an on-camera audience, and how can I make the most of the experience?

As a member of an on-camera audience, you'll be expected to actively participate by reacting appropriately—clapping, laughing, or cheering—based on cues from the show's production team. It's important to arrive on time, follow instructions from audience coordinators, and maintain a positive, engaging demeanor throughout filming. While the hours can be long and there may be periods of waiting between takes, professionalism and enthusiasm can help you stand out for future opportunities. Building good relationships with coordinators and fellow audience members can also lead to more frequent invitations and exposure to other roles in the entertainment industry.

Job description

The fabric of our nation is made both beautiful and unique by the people and the places found between our shores. Every community across this great nation has a treasure trove of stories waiting to be told, and we are here to do just that. Amazing America is hitting the road to discover every corner of America and create curiosity-driven multi-platform content that connects with our audiences through humor and heart.

To accelerate our growth, Sinclair Digital is seeking an experienced Digital Content Creator with a strong on-camera presence, exceptional storytelling instincts, and a genuine passion for exploring America and the people, places, and cultures that define it. The ideal candidate is a naturally curious creator who is equally comfortable uncovering compelling stories in the field as they are connecting with audiences across digital and social platforms.

In this role, you will independently pitch, shoot, produce, and edit original content in all formats (static graphics, carousels, video, etc.) for platforms including, but not limited to YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. We are particularly interested in candidates with a background in journalism and experience presenting on-camera. You will be the face of the Amazing America brand and play a central role in discovering and sharing the uniquely American stories found in communities across the nation.

While applying please provide an online portfolio / reel link for review.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Pitch, shoot and edit engaging content across multiple digital and social platforms.
  • Attend editorial meetings and proactively develop timely, curiosity-driven story ideas aligned with the Amazing America brand content.
  • Ideate and collaborate in developing new recurring series, franchise concepts, and platform-native formats designed to grow audience and expand the brand.
  • Confidently lead and host long-form YouTube content, with engaging storytelling, strong on-camera presence and audience retention.
  • Travel regularly to communities across the country to uncover and report on uniquely American stories.
  • Capture high-quality video and audio in both studio and field environments, often working independently on location.
  • Write scripts, interview questions, social copy, and promotional content optimized for platform-specific audiences.
  • Research and scout locations and interview subjects and obtain all necessary permissions to shoot.
  • Work with the Publishing Operations/Community Manager to maintain and update the editorial calendar and content pipeline.
  • Monitor news, cultural trends, and stories from across the country - including Sinclair's local stations - to identify compelling people, moments, and ideas that can be reimagined through Amazing America's unique voice and visual style.
  • Coordinate with other digital teams on collaborative publishing plans.
  • Review social and digital analytics and translate them into actionable steps to increase engagement and content performance.
  • Represent the Amazing America brand on camera with authenticity, curiosity, humor, and professionalism.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of writing/producing original content in print, video, and social.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in all aspects of video production including shooting, lighting, sound recording & editing, and ability to operate all associated equipment (i.e., DSLR or iPhone capture)
  • On-camera experience required. Prior experience hosting, interviewing, or presenting on camera is essential.
  • Impeccable spelling and grammar, a deep understanding of social media trends and what works on each platform, vertical video editing skills, and the ability to shoot well-composed videos on a phone.
  • Social Media expert with extensive familiarity with all platforms including YouTube, FB, IG, TikTok, etc., including an understanding of and passion for audience analytics.
  • Solid understanding of layout and design and the ability to follow brand guidelines to ensure a consistent brand aesthetic across all assets.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Photoshop, etc.), and other creative software.
  • Must be highly collaborative, motivated, extremely organized, and come to the position with a uniquely creative mind.
  • Must be comfortable with ambiguity and change that may come about as our team evolves over time.

Only applicants with sites and/or reels of their work will be considered.
