Position Summary

The Service Technician – Security Systems is responsible for servicing, troubleshooting, repairing, testing, and maintaining electronic security systems at customer locations. This role works directly with customers to diagnose system issues, complete service calls, perform preventative maintenance, and ensure security systems operate reliably and effectively.

Security systems may include access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, intercom, and other integrated security technologies. The ideal candidate has strong technical and troubleshooting skills, understands low-voltage systems and networking fundamentals, and provides excellent customer service.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and service electronic security systems.
  • Service and maintain access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, intercom, and related security systems.
  • Install, replace, configure, and program security system components.
  • Troubleshoot cameras, readers, locks, door hardware, controllers, sensors, power supplies, and related devices.
  • Troubleshoot communication and network connectivity issues affecting security systems.
  • Configure and test IP-based security devices and systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and system documentation.
  • Use appropriate test equipment, software, and diagnostic tools to identify system problems.
  • Verify proper operation of repaired or serviced systems.
  • Identify system deficiencies and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Document service work, system deficiencies, repairs, and materials used.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to customers, project managers, and internal teams.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with applicable codes, manufacturer requirements, and company standards.
  • Maintain assigned tools, equipment, inventory, and company vehicle.
  • Participate in on-call or emergency service rotations as required.
  • Maintain current knowledge of security technologies, products, software, and industry practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of electronic security and low-voltage systems.
  • Understanding of access control systems, including card readers, controllers, door hardware, and credentials.
  • Understanding of video surveillance systems, including IP cameras, recording platforms, and video management systems.
  • Knowledge of intrusion detection systems and related devices.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts, including IP addresses, switches, Ethernet, PoE, and network connectivity.
  • Ability to troubleshoot low-voltage wiring, power, communication, and system connectivity issues.
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot security system software and hardware.
  • Ability to understand and work with manufacturer-specific security platforms.
Qualifications
  • Experience with access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, or intercom systems.
  • Experience with IP-based security systems and networking.
  • Experience with multiple security manufacturers and platforms.
  • Industry certifications related to security, low-voltage systems, or networking.
  • Previous experience in a field service or technician role.
  • Experience with integrated security systems.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined or elevated areas.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to work from ladders, lifts, and elevated platforms.
  • Ability to distinguish different wire colors and read small labels and displays.
  • Ability to work in varying indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
