Job description

Job Title:         Supervisor

Client:              Heavy Machine Manufacturing Company
Duration:         2 Months (Possible Extension/Conversion Next Year)
Location:         Ottumwa, IA 52501
Shift:                3rd Shift (10:30 PM – 7:00 AM)

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise production, maintenance, and warehouse operations.
  • Lead a team of skilled trades and production employees.
  • Achieve safety, quality, production, and efficiency goals.
  • Monitor employee performance and provide coaching and corrective actions.
  • Investigate and resolve production, equipment, and process issues.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance and equipment uptime.
  • Ensure products meet quality standards and control plans.
  • Enforce safety policies and maintain housekeeping standards.
  • Manage department budgets, schedules, and resources.
  • Coordinate with day shift teams on projects, maintenance, and production priorities.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure employees receive proper training, work instructions, and tools.
  • Support overtime, weekend, and on-call operations as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of supervisory experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering, maintenance, skilled trades, or a technical field.
  • Experience with SAP and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and maintenance.
  • Understanding of workplace safety and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience leading capital or maintenance-related projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supervising skilled trades (electricians, millwrights, pipefitters, etc.).
  • Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance.
  • Experience with automation, robotics, or industrial controls.
  • Experience supervising union (UAW) employees.
  • Experience creating purchase orders and maintenance transactions in SAP.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.

Work Environment:

  • Manufacturing/shop-floor environment.
  • Supervises approximately 15–20 employees on 3rd shift.
  • Frequent interaction with production, maintenance, and engineering teams.
  • Requires occasional overtime, weekend, holiday, and on-call support.
