Job description

Direct Counsel is seeking a Digital Risk Advisory & Cybersecurity Associate with 3–6 years of experience to join a nationally recognized privacy and cybersecurity practice. This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney interested in advising sophisticated national and multinational clients on cybersecurity incidents, data privacy, regulatory compliance, and digital risk management.

The ideal candidate will have experience guiding clients through cybersecurity incidents, regulatory investigations, and privacy compliance matters, while working alongside industry-leading practitioners on some of the most complex and high-profile cybersecurity matters in the country.

Responsibilities
  • Advise clients through all phases of cybersecurity incidents, including incident response and post-incident regulatory investigations.
  • Counsel clients on privacy, cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, and enterprise risk management matters.
  • Conduct cybersecurity risk assessments and assist clients in strengthening cybersecurity programs.
  • Develop and facilitate incident response tabletop exercises and preparedness planning.
  • Advise clients on state, federal, and international privacy and cybersecurity laws.
  • Work closely with forensic investigators, technical consultants, and business stakeholders during cybersecurity investigations.
  • Translate technical findings into practical legal and business guidance for clients.
  • Support clients responding to government inquiries, regulatory investigations, and related litigation arising from cybersecurity events.
Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school with a strong academic record.
  • Active bar admission (or eligibility for admission by waiver) in the jurisdiction where the attorney will practice.
  • 3–6 years of experience in cybersecurity, privacy, regulatory compliance, commercial litigation, or related practice areas.
  • Experience managing cybersecurity incidents and regulatory response matters.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple fast-paced matters simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience advising clients on:
    • Cybersecurity compliance
    • Privacy law
    • Regulatory investigations
    • Risk management
  • Familiarity with privacy and cybersecurity laws such as:
    • CCPA
    • GDPR
    • GLBA
    • State data breach notification laws
  • Prior experience at an Am Law 100 firm.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Denver: $220,000–$250,000
  • Chicago, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Francisco, Seattle & Washington, DC: $245,000–$345,000
