Compensation, Benefits & ERISA (Health & Welfare Plans) Associate, Senior Associate, or Counsel Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking an Associate, Senior Associate, or Counsel Attorney to join the Compensation, Benefits & ERISA – Health & Welfare Plans practice of a highly regarded Am Law 100 firm in Atlanta, Georgia.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an attorney with 3+ years of employee benefits experience to join a nationally recognized Employee Benefits practice advising employers, plan sponsors, and other organizations on complex health and welfare plan compliance, regulatory matters, and employee benefits law.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise clients on the design, administration, and compliance of health and welfare benefit plans.

  • Counsel employers and plan sponsors on compliance with federal employee benefits laws and regulations.

  • Provide legal guidance regarding:

    • HIPAA

    • COBRA

    • The Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA)

    • The No Surprises Act

    • The Affordable Care Act (ACA)

  • Analyze regulatory developments and advise clients on compliance strategies and risk management.

  • Draft legal memoranda, plan documents, policies, and client communications.

  • Collaborate with attorneys across tax, labor and employment, and corporate practices to provide comprehensive employee benefits counsel.

Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school with excellent academic credentials.

  • Active Bar membership in good standing.

  • 3+ years of experience in employee benefits law with a focus on health and welfare plans.

  • Strong working knowledge of HIPAA, COBRA, MHPAEA, the No Surprises Act, and the Affordable Care Act.

  • Experience advising employers and plan sponsors on health and welfare benefits compliance.

  • Excellent analytical, drafting, research, and client counseling skills.

  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
