Job description

Denmark Ashby Matricardi LLC is seeking a highly experienced Litigation Attorney (5–7 years) with demonstrated expertise in school board and municipal government law to join our established public-sector practice.

This role is intended for an attorney who has meaningfully represented boards of education and/or municipal entities and is capable of contributing immediately to complex advisory and litigation matters, including cases that proceed to state and federal court.

We are not seeking a general litigator exploring public-sector work. We are seeking a candidate who understands the legal, operational, and political complexities inherent in representing public bodies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise boards of education and municipal governing bodies on governance, statutory compliance, policy development, and risk management.
  • Provide counsel on student discipline, special education, employment and labor matters, civil rights claims, public records, open meetings compliance, ethics, and regulatory obligations.
  • Represent clients in administrative proceedings, state court litigation, and federal court matters, including constitutional and employmentrelated claims.
  • Draft highlevel memoranda, advisory opinions, dispositive motions, and appellate briefs.
  • Conduct sophisticated statutory and constitutional research and analysis.
  • Manage multiple competing deadlines and priorities across advisory and litigation matters, including active motion practice.
  • Serve in a general counsel or solicitor capacity to public entities when required.
  • Independently manage complex matters from presuit strategy through resolution or trial.
  • Qualifications
  • 57 years of litigation experience with substantial focus in school board and/or municipal law.
  • Direct experience advising and representing boards of education and/or municipal governing bodies.
  • Demonstrated motion practice experience and strong courtroom proficiency.
  • Experience litigating in state court and readiness to handle matters in federal court.
  • Exceptional legal research and writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, persuasive, and timely work product under competing demands.
  • Ability to manage matters independently with minimal supervision while balancing multiple active cases.
  • Professional presence appropriate for advising elected officials, administrators, and public boards.
