Advance your career with Liberty Mutual Insurance - A Fortune 100 Company

Are you looking for an opportunity to use your degree in the business world? Then Liberty Mutual's Equipment Breakdown Risk Control group might be right for you. Our team works closely with customers to help them identify, quantify, mitigate, or eliminate serious threats to their businesses. In the process, we help fulfill Liberty Mutual's mission of helping people live safer, more secure lives.

Liberty Mutual is currently hiring an Equipment Breakdown Risk Control Consultant to provide jurisdictionally required inspections and other services to an assigned group of customers.

This role is 100% remote within the assigned territory. This role is also eligible for a company car. Additional information will be provided if you moved forward to speak with a recruiter.

The role provides commercial lines customers with boiler and pressure vessel inspections services through the successful completion of an entry-level training program and experience. Conducts extensive research, data collection and evaluation and analysis in order to make recommendations to control customer's source of risk, loss and/or costs.

The selected candidate will support projects and customer needs throughout New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut and will be required to travel regularly within the region. This is a remote, home-based position with significant field-based responsibilities, and candidates must reside within the assigned territory. Preferred locations include Western Massachusetts and New York's Capital Region, including Albany, Troy, and surrounding areas. This position may be filled at various levels, commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and possession of an NBIC Commission. Candidates who do not yet have an IS Commission are considered at a trainee level. The role involves a hybrid work arrangement, combining remote responsibilities with field-based activities. The Risk Control team operates in a collaborative environment, working virtually across multiple target territories to support operational objectives.

Reporting to the Equipment Breakdown Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Perform internal and external inspections of boilers, pressure vessels, steam and hot water systems, combustion equipment and associated piping and controls.
  • Conduct non destructive testing (ultrasonic thickness, magnetic particle, dye penetrant) and verify results.
  • Evaluate combustion efficiency, flue gas conditions and burner operation where applicable.
  • Assess water treatment and chemistry records and advise on corrosion or scaling risks.
  • Verify compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulations (e.g., ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, NBIC, and local/state requirements).
  • Prepare clear, accurate inspection reports, deficiency notices and certificates of inspection.
  • Recommend and document required repairs or modifications, and inspect completed repairs for compliance.
  • Coordinate inspections with owners, contractors and regulatory authorities.
  • Stay current on code updates, inspection techniques and industry best practices.
  • Exposure to noise, heat, confined spaces, and industrial environments; use of personal protective equipment required.
  • After hours or emergency inspections may be required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with coursework in mathematics and engineering or related area, plus a minimum of 3 years of directly related consulting experience.
  • NBBI IS Commission or ability to obtain NBBI IS Commission.
  • Demonstrated ability to retrieve and enter information using various proprietary software applications and create/modify documents and spreadsheets using Microsoft Office suite.
  • Knowledge, skills, and experience in boiler and pressure vessel inspections, service planning and delivery, risk assessment, risk analysis, solutions management, and progress measurement.
  • Fully effective interpersonal, writing, and other communication skills required to develop and maintain relationships with customers, peers, and industry contacts.
  • Ability to work closely with Claims and Underwriting.
  • Position requires regular travel.
