Job description

Job Summary

To act as a communication agent of the Hospital and operate the switchboard with speed and efficiency in responding to emergencies, information requests and other duties that may arise. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate telephone communication at MBMC. Have working knowledge of every computer in department. Must use encoder properly. Must use 4 and 7 digit paging system properly. Must use each function of the switchboard properly. Must be able to use emergency phone. Must know who to contact if one phone system fails and how to assist the repair person. 30 %
  • Responsible for answering code phone and alarm signals. Must be able to respond to all codes (99, blue, gray, 55, green), gas alarms, and elevator problems. Must keep records of each gas alarm, elevator problem, code and pay phone problems. All operators must have knowledge of all the outer property and buildings (includes Medical Arts East & West, Laundry, Colonnades, all Clinics, health care facilities, the Women's center, Watkins building, and 1600 North State Street building). 30 %
  • Maintain list of personnel on call (and for after regular working hours). Must be able to use call-back procedures, who to call back and how to use the on-call person. Keep monthly records of who is on-call by department. Keep up with hospital personnel on a daily basis, shift by shift. 20 %
  • Responsible for operating hospital emergency radio. Must understand all procedures for each disaster, weather alert, and all internal and outside emergencies. Must be able to use all emergency equipment. 20 %"
