Job description

Position: Oracle DBA
Location: 1609 Centre Creek Drive, Suite 100, Austin, Texas 78754
Duration: (3+ months) 612 Hours with possible extension
As part of HHSC IT Applications - Social Services Applications initiatives, the worker will perform the following activities to accomplish the following goals:
  • Performs advanced database development / logical database administration, performance monitoring & tuning for TIERS, Self Service Portal, Document Center, Enterprise Content Management, Task List Manager, Family Violence, Refugee Data Collection, and other Social Services applications. Work involves providing for the effective and efficient storage, retrieval, customization, and archiving of data by managing diverse data sets and to ensure integrated and stable database systems.
  • Supports and performs the planning, design, administration, operation and maintenance of the various Social Services application databases.
  • Performs database design & development and provides database related support to the application development teams that are performing application enhancements planned to support new program & business requests and to enhance Scalability & Stability of the applications.
  • Provides technical expertise for data retrieval and update programs. Writes and debugs complex programs.
  • Plans, develops, and implements database policies and procedures; and ensures data integrity as maintenance and modification projects to existing applications are undertaken.
  • Participates in the development of and enforces programming standards for programs interfacing with the databases. Provides technical assistance to programming personnel.
  • Performs administration, operation, maintenance and support of production databases, including database triage support. Performs both workday and night/weekend on-call support for all development, test, training, and production databases to help maintain high availability of the databases for developers, testers, trainers, and production end users.
  • Owns all day-to-day application-specific database design efforts in relation to the assigned applications. Performs and supports the design, development, tuning and maintenance of databases including structures, behaviors, performance, security, and recovery.
  • Provides expertise in and participates in the development and implementation of database architectures to meet application performance and security requirements.
  • Serves as a technical resource for difficult questions and problems. Provides technical guidance for database related design, development, integration, conversion and testing work.
  • Educates development teams on database concepts and techniques. Assists with analysis and design of new development, updates, changes, and fixes. Writes and debugs complex stored procedures and triggers.
  • Implements, administers, manages, and monitors the assigned application databases in production & non-production environments. Monitors database performance.
  • Designs and implements performance tuning improvements and advises developers on tuning options. Ensures that data integrity and data security is maintained.
  • Identifies and resolves problems. Demonstrates advanced troubleshooting and analytical skills through problem resolution.
  • Configures and monitors alerts.
  • Develops and implements appropriate monitoring tools. Plans for future data needs ensuring that needed capacity is available.
  • Develops policies and procedures to ensure consistent implementation of database and programming best practices. Contributes to development of budgets and recommendations for future upgrades.
  • Contributes to improving and creating database application processes and procedures
  • Evaluates and recommends database software packages and upgrades.
  • Plans, coordinates and implements database management software installations and upgrades.
  • Assists in the testing of application updates, enhancements and changes for the purpose of ensuring that assigned applications and related systems continue to meet SLA requirements.
  • Collaborates with support teams on various IT projects.
  • Work with other teams as necessary to accomplish goals.
  • Create technical and design documentation, as required.
  • Perform system analysis and problem resolution, as required.
  • Analyze software for configuration & performance tuning opportunities, as required.
  • Develop and maintain data and process models, as required.
  • Employ contemporary testing methods to ensure applications function properly and without error.
  • Provide technical support for testing and implementation efforts.
  • Participate in program design, coding and test walk-through meetings to provide input regarding technical standards and customer requirements.
  • Provide database support (defect repair, maintenance, and production operations support) for web-based Java applications in an SOA platform.
  • Perform system analysis, troubleshooting, diagnosis and problem resolution.
  • Analyze software for defects and performance tuning opportunities.
  • Develop and test code/scripts to resolve defects and improve application reliability and performance
