Job Description
The Infrastructure Technology & Shared Services organization is a component of Advance Auto Parts' Information Technology function. This team is responsible for all elements of Infrastructure Technology Architecture and Engineering from defining the overall enterprise infrastructure architecture to its ongoing operations and governance with the goal of ensuring the IT function operates as effectively and efficiently as possible. This organization has a direct impact on Advance Auto Parts' ability to introduce business capabilities at a pace that enables Advance Auto Part's Mission of having a "Passion for Customers. Passion for Yes".
The Senior Systems Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure Platform Engineering will help design, engineer and support our infrastructure environment as we re-platform our traditional application stack to one that is modern and Edge computing infrastructure platform. You will be empowered to innovate and lead the definition of the Edge computing infrastructure standards, automation, and processes that will enable product teams to release features anytime in a secure and agile manner. To accomplish our goals the successful candidate will act as a SME for our Edge infrastructure, security and application development teams on Edge computing architecture and principles for continuous delivery in the Edge.
This position is 4 days in office, 1 day remote per week, based at our corporate headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina (North Hills)
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform basic and advanced Systems Administration tasks.

  • Monitor and maintain Edge computing platform. Perform upgrades and troubleshooting.

  • Participate in the creation of entire Systems (Clients, Server Hardware, network, and databases).

  • Participate and coordinate activities for incident management, service development, service transition, and continual service improvement of store systems infrastructure services.

  • Automate the maintenance activities, document and operationalize the tasks and transition to operations team.

  • Participate in an On-Call 24x7 rotation, or weekend work along with other Team Member Engineers.

  • Interpret technical requirements into business requirements and communicate risks to relevant stakeholders ranging from business leaders to engineers.

  • Provide succinct diagrams such as high-level design and low-level design documents and workflows and able to present to senior leadership as well as technical teams.

  • Work through the project life cycle from design, implementation, cutover, hyper care and operation transition.

  • Participate in problem solving, troubleshooting and level 3 engineering support of infrastructure and applications as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience leading technology teams supporting Edge computing platform such as Scale computing hypercore.

  • Experience with Windows Power shell scripting and API based programing.

  • 7+ years in Infrastructure and Software Engineering.

  • Experience with the IAC (Infrastructure as Code) implementation and automation

  • Deep understanding of Microsoft Windows Server experience is required.

  • Working experience with forest/multi domain Active Directory and GPO.

  • Working experience with DNS, Group Policy and PKI.

  • Working experience and expertise with SCCM and InTune.

  • Experience with platform upgrades.

  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMWare, Nutanix, KVM is needed.

  • Experience with Systems Infrastructure engineering in a large, distributed environment.

  • Experience with Windows server 2012 - 2025 and client operating systems.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills a must.

  • Strong analytical and communication skills.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, architectural articulation and leadership skills.

  • Experience leading and working with diverse geographically distributed teams.

  • Be able to work with teams with varying levels of technical levels and experiences
