General Statement of Responsibilities:
Responsible for teaching and mentoring students in the Navy Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (NJROTC) program. Their primary goal is to develop leadership, citizenship, discipline, and physical fitness among cadets while providing instruction in naval science and military principles.
Essential Functions:
  • Teach NJROTC courses following the curriculum provided by the U.S. Navy and the school district.
  • Cover topics such as naval history, leadership, citizenship, military customs, and physical fitness.
  • Prepare lesson plans and conduct engaging classroom instruction.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for students, instilling discipline, teamwork, and responsibility.
  • Develop cadets' leadership skills through practical exercises and classroom activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of cadet participation, grades, and program requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Navy and school district policies and regulations.
  • Coordinate program logistics; including uniform distribution, drill team activities, and field trips.
  • Supervise and train cadets in drill, physical fitness, and marksmanship (if applicable).
  • Organize and lead NJROTC-related extracurricular activities such as parades, competitions, and community service events.
  • Assist in planning and overseeing summer leadership training or field trips.
  • Provide guidance on career paths, including military and civilian opportunities.
  • Assist students in applying for scholarships and service academies.
  • Foster relationships with parents, school administrators, and community organizations.
  • Represent the NJROTC program at school and community events.
  • Participates as a member of an instructional team to promote learning activities for students consistent with district and school education objectives.
  • Notifies site administrator of the special needs of students who display characteristics that vary from the norm.
  • Collaborate with specialists to assist students.
  • May monitor the activities of a teacher assistant and classroom volunteers.
  • Orders classroom supplies and instructional materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Must be a retired or honorably discharged U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard officer or senior enlisted personnel.
  • Meet the qualifications set by the Naval Service Training Command (NSTC) for NJROTC instructors.
  • Obtain approval and certification through the Navy JROTC Instructor Program.
  • Possess strong leadership, communication, and instructional skills.
  • Possess Arizona Department of Education Junior Reserve Training Corps Certificate
  • Possess Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card
