SOUS CHEF
Location: Presidio Golf Course - San Francisco, California
Company: KemperSports
Department: Food & Beverage / Culinary
Reports To: Executive Chef
Classification: Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
The Sous Chef works closely with the Executive Chef to support all aspects of culinary operations at Presidio Golf Course. This position helps lead daily restaurant service, banquets, golf tournaments, private events, and other food and beverage operations while ensuring consistent food quality, presentation, service, sanitation, and safety standards.
The Sous Chef is a hands-on leader who supports and develops the culinary team, assists with food preparation and menu execution, and helps maintain an organized, efficient, and professional kitchen. In the absence of the Executive Chef, the Sous Chef assumes responsibility for directing kitchen operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist the Executive Chef with daily culinary operations and execution of food service.
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of high-quality food consistent with established recipes, presentation, and quality standards.
  • Support restaurant operations, banquets, golf tournaments, private events, and special functions.
  • Assist with menu development, daily specials, food preparation, and production planning.
  • Supervise, train, coach, and support culinary team members.
  • Assist with employee scheduling and daily assignment of kitchen responsibilities.
  • Lead kitchen operations in the absence of the Executive Chef.
  • Monitor food quality, portioning, presentation, and consistency.
  • Assist with purchasing, receiving, inventory management, and proper storage of food and supplies.
  • Support food and labor cost controls and help minimize waste.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and professional kitchen environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, health department, and workplace safety requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with the Executive Chef, Food & Beverage team, event staff, and other departments.
  • Respond professionally and efficiently to operational challenges and changing business needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum two years of professional cooking or chef experience required.
  • Previous supervisory or kitchen leadership experience preferred.
  • Current required food-handling certification.
  • Knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, kitchen operations, and food safety.
  • Experience with food and labor cost controls, menu development, inventory management, and culinary team development preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach, twist, push, pull, and perform other movements associated with commercial kitchen operations.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a commercial kitchen environment with exposure to heat, cold, cleaning products, and typical kitchen equipment.
