Shift Details: 24-hour shift Holidays: yes Weekends: yes

Flexible schedule, on call for thoracic procurement and fly out for transplantation. If not flying, administrative duties will be applied.

Job Summary:

The Organ Preservationist (OP) serves as the key individual responsible for facilitating the organ recovery process when deceased donor organs become available to transplant candidates. This position provides 24/7 on-call coverage (rotating schedule) for the surgical recovery of donor organs for the heart, kidney, liver, lung and pancreas programs at Froedtert Health and the liver and kidney programs at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. The OP has primary responsibility for coordinating and assisting with key aspects of the surgical recovery of organs used for transplantation. The OP provides and maintains a safe environment by complying with regulatory requirements and standards set forth by the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, and other regulatory agencies. A high degree of independence is expected in executing complex logistical support operations for organ recovery and perfusion.

EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:

A minimum of 1 year of Acute Care, Surgical Care, Radiology, Cardiology, Emergency Services, Transplant, and/or OPO (Organ Procurement Organization) experience is required.

EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:

A degree or certificate from an accredited EMT training program or School of Practical Nursing, Surgical Technology, or other health-care related field is required. High School diploma or equivalent is preferred. Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a biological sciences field

TRAINING DESCRIPTION:

Knowledge of and a general familiarity with medical records and medical terminology. Strong computer skills that should include Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet and basic use of computer databases. Ability to arrive to the hospital on short notice while on call and travel via air or ground to donor hospitals across the country. Ability to work on an on call fashion with sometimes unpredictable hours with no expectation of a concrete end time, as the procurement of an organ may have unforeseen delays resulting in unexpected work hours. Maintains composure and professional communication in all interactions with surgeons, Organ Procurement Organization staff, donor hospital staff and Froedtert Operating Room staff.

LICENSURE DESCRIPTION:

Must be licensed in the State of Wisconsin (if applicable). Transplant Preservation Certification through the American Board of Transplant Certification (ABTC) is required within 18 months of hire.
