Electronic Security Systems Engineer

(Access Control, CCTV, Physical Security Systems)
University Health – San Antonio, Texas

Position Summary

University Health is seeking an Electronic Security Systems Engineer to support and maintain enterprise physical and electronic security technologies across our healthcare facilities.

This role supports critical security infrastructure including access control, video surveillance (CCTV), emergency communications, RFID infant/pediatric protection systems, and visitor management platforms. The position works closely with Information Systems, Protective Services, and vendors to ensure the reliability and security of facility-based electronic security systems.

Note: This role supports physical security technology systems and operational infrastructure and is not a cybersecurity position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support enterprise electronic security systems including access control, video surveillance (CCTV), RFID safety systems, and intrusion alarm systems.
  • Configure system settings, user permissions, and device integrations within security platforms.
  • Monitor automated data exchanges related to badging, access provisioning, and system interfaces.
  • Perform system testing, upgrades, patches, and routine maintenance of electronic security technologies.
  • Generate system reports, audits, and operational metrics to ensure system performance and accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and coordinate service restoration with IT teams and external vendors.
  • Support system installations, expansions, and upgrades across University Health facilities.
  • Participate in incident, problem, and change management processes.
  • Provide after-hours and on-call support for critical security systems as required.

Technical Environment

Experience supporting enterprise electronic security or physical security systems, including:

  • Access Control Systems: Software House CCure 9000
  • Visitor Management Systems: HID SAFE
  • Emergency Communications Systems: Zenitel Stentofon
  • Intercom / Communication Systems
  • RTLS / RFID Protection Systems: CenTrak
  • Intrusion Alarm Systems: DSC
  • Security Devices: badge readers, electronic door locks, video cameras, and related security hardware
  • Infant/Pediatric Protection Systems
  • Windows Server environments
  • VMware vSphere virtual environments
  • Cisco UCS or Dell server hardware
  • Networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, IP addressing)

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Healthcare Technology, or related field required.

Relevant experience may substitute for education requirements. Experience supporting enterprise physical security systems, healthcare environments, or complex IT infrastructure is preferred.

Candidates must have the ability to obtain vendor certifications such as CCure 9000, Zenitel Stentofon, CenTrak, DSC, and HID SAFE.


Work Environment

Work occurs in hospital facilities, technical environments, and data centers across University Health locations. Travel between facilities may be required. This role participates in a 24/7 on-call rotation supporting critical facility security systems.
