On Call Drivers are professional drivers who are available to work as needed, often on short notice, to transport people or goods. They do not have set schedules but instead respond to assignments when called upon by their employer or dispatcher. This role may involve driving different types of vehicles, such as vans, cars, or trucks, depending on the job requirements. On Call Drivers are commonly employed in industries like transportation, healthcare, and delivery services. Flexibility and reliability are important qualities for this position.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be an on call driver?

To thrive as an On Call Driver, you need a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and a good understanding of local routes and traffic laws. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, mobile dispatch apps, and basic vehicle maintenance is typically required. Reliability, strong communication, and customer service skills help drivers excel in unpredictable and customer-facing situations. These skills ensure timely, safe, and professional transportation services, which are critical for meeting client needs and maintaining employer trust.

How does scheduling work for an on call driver, and what should I expect about work hours and availability?

On Call Drivers typically have flexible work schedules, as they are required to be available on short notice to fill in for regular drivers or handle unexpected transportation needs. Work hours can vary significantly, with shifts sometimes occurring early in the morning, late at night, or on weekends, depending on the employer’s needs.
