Job description

Job Title: Field Service Supervisor

Reports To: Region Operations Manager or Field Service Supervisor 

FLSA Status:  Hourly, Non-Exempt, Full-Time

Job Summary:  

Supervise, train, and assist field service technicians/ engineers while being responsible for all aspects of team’s field service work, including customer communication, sales, job estimating, scheduling, reports and billing.  Performs electrical apparatus work onsite at customer’s facilities.  This includes electrical testing, preventative maintenance, commissioning, upgrades, and repairs to electrical apparatus. Responsible for troubleshooting, training, establishing LOTO, interacting with customers, report writing, etc.

 
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Assist Management with developing training, career paths and succession planning for all team members. 

  • Directly supervises teams of 4-6 field technicians. 

  • Develops work plans for execution of maintenance and testing of electrical apparatus in accordance with established standards, scopes of work, and customer requests.  

  • Responsible for timely customer deliverables including project reports and billing information. 

  • Actively involved in customer communication and business development activities, including recommendations regarding mitigation of deficiencies found during maintenance and testing activities and inspections. 

  • Analyzes projects and identifies areas to improve efficiencies and profitability while still meeting customer expectations. 

  • Plans and participates in safety meetings, training, and audits. 

  • Supports management in the planning, scheduling, execution, and cost management of field projects as well as organizational goals and objectives. 

  • Execute mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment utilized in power transmission, distribution, and generation at customer facilities. 

  • Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and writing diagrams to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems. 

  • Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean all components in a substation. 

  • Must have knowledge and be able to assist the following tasks: 

  • Transformer Testing – Power factor, TTR, insulation resistance, SFRA, winding resistance, partial discharge, and leakage reactance. 

  • Cable Testing – Insulation resistance, tan delta, hipot, TDR, partial discharge, and cable thumper 

  • Circuit Breaker Testing – Insulation resistance, contact resistance, power factor, breaker timing, SF6 gas analysis, CT testing, high current testing, secondary injection testing, and vacuum bottle integrity testing. 

  • Test both electrical-mechanical and solid-state relays. 

  • Plans, participates, and develops safety meetings and training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Familiar with industry standards such as NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA compliance standards, safety laws, and DOT regulations. 

  • Ability to assist with complex mechanical and electrical problems. 

  • Knowledge of electrical apparatus testing with a strong theoretical understanding of electrical power systems. 

  • Ability to supervise large scale projects. 

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Continued): 

  • Must have strong PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Office. 

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet goals and deadlines. 

  • Ability to work independently, while utilizing excellent judgement. 

  • Doble DTAF and PowerDB knowledge is preferred, training will be provided. 

  • Has demonstrated the ability to be consistently on time for daily work assignments, meetings, training, etc. 

  • Demonstrates organizational skills to include on time reporting of time and expenses, weekly status reports, and any other documentation and reporting requirements. 

  • Demonstrates the responsibility required to keep tools, test equipment, and vehicles in clean and organized condition and up to date with service and calibrations. 

Work Environment: 

  • Must be willing to relocate within 60 miles of the hiring regional office. 

  • Corporate business hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm, but depending on the scope of works hours outside of business hours will be required. 

  • Work in close, but safe, proximity to live electrical substations. 

  • Must be able to work overtime including nights, weekends, and some holidays. 

  • Must be able to travel on overnight, multi-day, out-of-town projects. 

  • Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner. 

Education and Work Experience: 

  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED.  Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology, or Military experience is preferred but not required. 

  • At least 5 years of experience electrical substation testing, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, assembly, and commissioning required.  

  • At least 5 years of experience in direct supervision in a field service industry.
