Oiler Technician

Note: As a union-based employer, we are unable to guarantee any shift preference following initial training on day shift. Shift preference is granted by seniority. All candidates should expect to work afternoon shift or night shift at some point following initial training.

Day Shift: Monday โ€“ Friday: 7 AM to 3 PM / 6AM to 2PM

Pay Rate: $27.50/hr

Position Overview

The Oiler Technician is a critical member of the maintenance team, responsible for the lubrication, fluid management, and basic preventive maintenance of all heavy industrial machinery. At Canton Drop Forge, this role ensures the operational readiness and longevity of large-scale forging equipment, including steam hammers, hydraulic presses, and support systems. The successful candidate will follow a rigorous lubrication schedule to prevent downtime and mechanical failure in a demanding, high-heat industrial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lubrication Management: Perform manual and automated lubrication of heavy forging equipment, including steam hammers (ram guides, cylinders, and linkages) and large-capacity hydraulic presses.
  • Fluid Monitoring: Conduct daily inspections of oil levels, hydraulic reservoirs, and systems. Replenish fluids as necessary to maintain manufacturer-specified levels.
    • Preventive Maintenance (PM): Assist in the execution of PM check
    • Equipment Inspection: Identify and report potential mechanical issues, such as leaking seals, unusual vibrations, or blocked lubrication lines, discovered during routine
    • System Maintenance: Clean and maintain grease fittings, oilers, and replacement of lubrication pumps. Assist millwrights and mechanics in the repair of lubrication delivery
    • Inventory & Housekeeping: Maintain clean and organized oil storage areas. Monitor inventory of lubricants and greases, ensuring all containers are properly labeled and secondary containment is managed per environmental safety
    • Waste Management: Oversee the collection and proper disposal of used oils and filters in accordance with company environmental policies.
    • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Fall Protection when working at heights, and the proper use of PPE.

    Requirements

    • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Technical training in industrial maintenance is a plus.
    • Experience: Previous experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment; specific experience with heavy pneumatic or hydraulic equipment is highly preferred.
    • Technical Aptitude: Ability to read and interpret lubrication charts, equipment manuals, and basic blueprints.
    • Detail-Oriented: Strong commitment to following precise schedules and documenting work accurately.

    Physical Requirements

    • Must be able to stand majority of shift.
    • Job involves frequent standing, walking, twisting, turning, reaching, bending, climbing steps, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout shift.
