Oilfield Fly In Fly Out information

What is an oilfield fly in fly out?

Oilfield Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) jobs are positions in the oil and gas industry where employees are flown to remote worksites for a set period, such as two weeks on and two weeks off, and then flown back home. This arrangement allows companies to staff operations in locations that are difficult to access or do not have local accommodation. Workers typically stay in employer-provided camps during their shifts and rotate with other crews. FIFO jobs can include roles such as drilling, maintenance, engineering, and support staff. These positions often offer higher pay but require adaptability to challenging working conditions and extended time away from home.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an oilfield fly in fly out worker?

To thrive as an Oilfield Fly In Fly Out worker, you need strong mechanical aptitude, physical fitness, and relevant safety certifications such as H2S Alive or First Aid. Familiarity with industry-standard tools, heavy equipment, and digital reporting systems is typically required. Excellent teamwork, adaptability, and effective communication skills help individuals succeed in remote and demanding environments. These abilities ensure safety, efficiency, and reliability in challenging oilfield operations.

What is the typical work schedule and lifestyle like for an oilfield fly in fly out position?

Oilfield FIFO roles generally follow a roster-based schedule, such as two weeks on followed by two weeks off, though exact rotations can vary by company and project. This means you’ll spend extended periods living and working at remote sites, often in company-provided accommodations. While the schedule allows for significant time off, the work periods can be intense and physically demanding, often involving long shifts. Teamwork is crucial, as you’ll be collaborating closely with colleagues in challenging environments. If you value extended downtime between work and can adapt to being away from home for stretches, this structure can offer a unique work-life balance.
