Job description

Are you mechanically inclined? Are you a problem solver? Are you the person people go to when they need something fixed? Well, this may be the gig for you. Clifford Power Systems, Inc. is seeking a qualified candidate for a position as a Generator Field Service Technician in the Austin area. The position requires an understanding of combustion engines, our products are typically driven by Diesel, Natural Gas, or Propane engines. You also need an understanding of Electricity. We work with a wide range of A/C power like 120/240v single phase or 277/480v three phase. We also work with D/C controls ranging from 12v to 24v. Last but not least, we use a laptop to interface with controls software.

A day in the life of a Generator Field Service Technician looks a bit like this. Each day you’ll fire up your tablet/laptop to pull up your schedule and make sure nothing has changed. You’ll then leave from your house in your company-supplied Service Truck and travel to your first job site. The work on the jobsite might consist of a simple routine Planned Maintenance Inspection or it might be an Inspection that also requires an Engine Service (changing of oil and filters). Your day might also include a Quoted Service Repair or an Emergency Trouble Call. For those more experienced Technicians it might be commissioning or starting up a newly installed generator. We don’t get involved in the installation, only the commissioning. At the end of each of these tasks, you’ll finalize your paperwork in electronic format and sync that information via a Mobile Technician Application. This syncing will also push to you any schedule updates. You’ll then return home at the end of your day. We only want you to travel into the office if you need parts or supplies.  

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide customer service above and beyond the customer’s expectations
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose engine and electrical repairs on power generation equipment (engine-driven generators and automatic transfer switches)
  • Perform work on power generation equipment located at customer sites, or occasional work at our local shop
  • Use safe practices with operation of service truck
  • Perform preventive maintenance on power generation equipment
  • Perform start-ups on new power generation equipment
  • Perform warranty work on power generation equipment
  • Process required paperwork and electronic submissions within deadlines
  • Maintain parts inventory of service truck
  • 24/7 on-call technician

Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

Experience:

3+ years of experience with diesel and/or natural gas engines, generators, and automatic transfer switches

Required:

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Mechanical and electrical knowledge
  • Common hand tools and electrical meter required to perform troubleshooting, repair and maintenance

This position will involve frequently working around electricity and other potential hazards. Appropriate safety equipment and practices are required. The employee must possess the ability to lift 50 pounds.
