How much do oil rig paid relocation jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 7, 2026, the average hourly pay for oil rig paid relocation in the United States is $22.69, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.87 and $28.61 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in an oil rig position with paid relocation, and why are they important?

To thrive in an oil rig position with paid relocation, you generally need a high school diploma or equivalent, physical fitness, and knowledge of safety protocols and mechanical systems. Familiarity with drilling equipment, safety certifications such as H2S or Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET), and use of digital monitoring systems are common requirements. Strong teamwork, adaptability, and effective communication are crucial soft skills due to the demanding and remote work environment. These skills ensure safety, productivity, and successful collaboration in challenging offshore conditions.

What should I expect in terms of work-life balance and living arrangements when accepting an oil rig position with paid relocation?

Oil rig positions with paid relocation typically require employees to work in rotational shifts, such as two weeks on the rig followed by two weeks off. While on-site, you'll live in shared accommodations provided by the company, which include basic amenities but limited privacy. The remote and intensive nature of the work means long hours and close collaboration with your team, but the scheduled rotations allow for extended periods of rest at home. Adjusting to this lifestyle can be challenging at first, but many find the structured time off and camaraderie among crew members to be rewarding aspects of the job.

What does 'Oil Rig Paid Relocation' mean?

'Oil Rig Paid Relocation' refers to job opportunities in the oil and gas industry where the employer covers the costs of moving an employee to the location of the oil rig. This typically includes transportation, temporary housing, and sometimes assistance with moving personal belongings. Paid relocation is offered because oil rigs are often located in remote or offshore areas where local workers may not be available. This benefit helps attract skilled workers from a wider geographic area and makes the transition to a new job site smoother and more affordable for employees.
