Job Summary

The Director of Shared Services will build, lead, and continuously improve QB Energy's internal oilfield service capabilities. The initial focus will be standing up a company-operated plug and abandonment (P&A) rig operation and assuming responsibility for the existing swab and slickline trucks. Subsequent responsibilities will include the management of company-owned drilling, completion and auxiliary oilfield support.  This includes an internally operated frac fleet, aerated drilling compression, and other field service equipment. 

The role will own the operational and financial performance of shared services, including safety, equipment selection and procurement, staffing, maintenance, utilization, service quality, and cost control. Additional opportunities will include the development of projects that reduce total operating cost while reliably supporting drilling, completions, workover, and production operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

·         Stand up and lead a company-operated P&A rig service, including defining operating requirements, selecting and procuring fit-for-purpose equipment, developing operating processes, and establishing the organization needed for safe and reliable execution.

·         Lead the operational management of company-owned hydraulic fracturing fleets and completion equipment, including workforce planning, equipment utilization, maintenance, reliability, safety performance, service quality, and cost management.

·         Oversee the deployment, operation, maintenance, and performance optimization of company-owned aerated drilling compression equipment

·         Manage auxiliary drilling and completions equipment, including compressors, generators, pumps, tanks, fluid handling systems, pressure-control equipment, and other shared-service assets required to support safe and efficient field operations.

·         Develop and execute capital investment, maintenance, replacement, and asset-lifecycle strategies for frac, compression, and auxiliary equipment fleets to maximize reliability, utilization, and return on invested capital.

·         Establish performance metrics and operational standards for internally owned drilling and completions equipment, including equipment uptime, reliability, maintenance compliance, utilization, service quality, and cost efficiency.

·         Partner with Drilling, Completions, Production, Engineering, HSE, and Supply Chain teams to forecast equipment demand, optimize fleet deployment, coordinate maintenance activities, and ensure operational readiness across all company-owned service assets.

·         Evaluate opportunities to expand internally managed service offerings through additional drilling, completions, production-support, and specialty equipment services, and lead implementation of approved growth initiatives.

·         Assume full operational responsibility for the existing swab and slickline trucks, including staffing, scheduling, maintenance, equipment readiness, utilization, service quality, and cost performance.

·         Own the P&L and financial performance of internal shared services. Develop annual budgets, capital plans, forecasts, and unit-cost metrics; track actual performance against plan and drive sustained reductions in cost per job and total company spend.

·         Develop and maintain rigorous safety expectations, operating procedures, training and competency requirements, pre-job planning practices, incident learning processes, and field assurance programs appropriate for service operations.

·         Establish preventive maintenance, inspection, certification, spare-parts, and equipment-reliability programs to maximize uptime, protect equipment life, and minimize unplanned downtime.

·         Partner closely with the Workover Superintendent, Production Superintendent, Completions Superintendent, Production Engineers, and Completion and Drilling Engineers to forecast demand, prioritize work, coordinate schedules, and fully utilize internal service capacity.

·         Develop transparent service-level expectations and operating KPIs, including safety performance, utilization, equipment uptime, service quality, schedule adherence, cost per unit, and savings versus external service alternatives.

·         Continuously evaluate vendor performance, purchasing practices, labor productivity, equipment configuration, workflow, and operating procedures to identify and implement opportunities to lower cost without compromising safety or service quality.

·         Identify and evaluate additional oilfield services that may be attractive to bring in-house. Build business cases considering safety and operational risk, technical capability, expected utilization, capital requirements, staffing, maintenance, third-party market cost, and strategic value.

·         Recommend when to internalize, expand, contract, or externally source services based on economics, capacity, risk, and company operating needs; lead implementation of approved internal-service expansions.

·         Drive cross-functional planning to balance work across internal assets, reduce idle time, and identify opportunities to support multiple operating groups with the same shared-service resources including potential to work for companies beyond QB Energy.

Supervisor Duties

·         Communicate operating performance, safety results, and cost trends to leadership and field teams through regular written reports and verbal updates.

·         Establish clear goals, performance expectations, and accountability for supervisors, crew leads, and operators across the shared services team, providing direction, feedback, and coaching to drive safety, utilization, and cost performance.

·         Recruit, onboard, develop, and retain qualified supervisors, operators, rig crews, and support personnel. Build clear roles, training plans, and succession capability as the organization grows

Qualifications

Education:

·         Bachelor's degree required; Engineering, Business, or a related discipline preferred

Experience:

·         Minimum of 15 years of oilfield service experience with progressively increasing responsibility, including significant direct leadership of an oilfield service business and demonstrated P&L accountability.

Specialized knowledge:

·         Extensive knowledge of oilfield service-company management, with a particular strength in completions & workover execution.

·         Ability to manage auxiliary drilling equipment services, such as compressors, pumps & associated personnel needed to support these operations

·         Strong understanding of swabbing and slickline operations; working knowledge of the service needs associated with production, workovers, completions, and drilling.

·         Demonstrated ability to manage a service business with strong P&L discipline, including budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, capital allocation, equipment economics, and make-versus-buy analysis.

·         Deep understanding of oilfield safety risks, crew competency, field operating procedures, equipment inspections, maintenance programs, and applicable regulatory requirements.

·         Experience selecting, purchasing, commissioning, and maintaining service-rig and field-service equipment, with the ability to assess fit-for-purpose specifications and total lifecycle cost.

·         Working knowledge of applicable federal and state oil and gas, transportation, environmental, and safety requirements; familiarity with Colorado ECMC requirements preferred.

·         Ability to build collaborative working relationships with field operations, superintendents, engineers, finance, supply chain, vendors, and company leadership.

·         Strong planning and prioritization skills with the ability to allocate constrained people and equipment across competing operational demands.

·         Self-directed, hands-on problem solver who can move effectively between field execution, equipment details, personnel leadership, and strategic business evaluation.

·         Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present recommendations, operating results, risks, and business cases to leadership.

Compensation

The base compensation for this role in this location is targeted between $191,000 and $254,000 annually. Final offer amounts and job level are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the range listed above.
