Job description

ROTA Caregiver (Live-In) – A Truly Meaningful Role

We are seeking an experienced, compassionate Caregiver to join a dedicated team supporting a kind, proud, and dynamic gentleman in his 80s. This is a unique opportunity for someone who understands that caregiving is not just a job—it’s a commitment to building trust, connection, and ultimately, a lifelong bond.

This role goes beyond daily care. It’s about showing up with empathy, patience, humor, and emotional intelligence—becoming a steady, supportive presence in someone’s life during an important chapter.

About the Principal and Team

You will work as part of a ROTA schedule alongside a collaborative and thoughtful team.

The Principal is:

  • Intelligent, proud, and direct in communication
  • Cognitively aware, with some language loss that tends to increase as the day progresses
  • Someone who values honesty, dignity, and real human connection

You’ll work closely with:

  • A highly respected medical liaison
  • The Principal’s son and other family members
  • Additional household staff
This is a household that values communication, consistency, and mutual respect.

Living Accommodations

The main residence is a spacious home with 6–7 bedrooms on a farm property, offering comfortable and flexible living arrangements for the caregiver.

After thoughtful consideration, the family feels the best setup would be:

  • A bedroom adjacent to the Principal’s master suite for ease of access and support, or
  • A private third-floor suite, complete with its own bathroom and sitting area, for those who prefer additional privacy (a baby monitor can be utilized for overnight awareness)

There are also shared living spaces within the main home, and the environment is warm, lived-in, and respectful of personal space.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide full-spectrum daily support from morning through bedtime
  • Assist with personal care (including bathing, dressing, and toileting with complete discretion and comfort)
  • Support the Medical Liaison with medical routines and overall wellness
  • Navigate changing communication abilities with patience and clarity
  • Offer structure and guidance during moments of confusion
  • Be proactive in anticipating needs (especially as the day progresses)
  • Assist with travel, packing/unpacking, and transitions between residences
  • Ensure safety, including awareness of nighttime wandering
  • Engage in light companionship activities (cards, conversation, shared time)

Schedule & Travel

This is a 24/7 care position averaging 12 hours of active (daytime) care and 12 hours of passive/on-call (late evenings and overnight) care.

  • Preference is a 2-weeks on/2-weeks off rotation (possible 3-weeks on/3-weeks off schedule, if desired)

This role includes travel to beautiful and dynamic locations, including:

  • Palm Beach, Florida
  • The Bahamas (seasonal boating/fishing)
  • Texas (seasonal ranch stays)
  • Travel to other properties for holidays and vacation required

You’ll be part of a lifestyle that is ever-changing—requiring flexibility, professionalism, and a sense of adventure.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Warm, grounded, and emotionally intelligent
  • Direct and honest (no “baby talk” or over-softening)
  • Comfortable in a highly personal caregiving environment
  • Patient and understanding as communication evolves
  • Experience caring for individuals with dementia/memory care (strongly preferred)
  • Able to build rapport over time—this is not instant, and that’s okay
  • Observant and intuitive to both spoken and unspoken needs
  • Experienced in caregiving (nursing background is a plus, but not required)
  • Fluent in English (clear communication is essential)
  • Ideally seeking candidates based in the New England area; however, open to a nationwide search for a truly exceptional (rockstar-level) candidate (fly-in/fly-out arrangement)

Compensation & Benefits

  • $100,000+ annually DOE
  • 401k
  • Health insurance
  • Live-in accommodations: room & board, meals eaten with Principal (lunch and dinner)
  • Use of household vehicles
  • Flights (for fly in/fly out candidates)

Final Thoughts

This role requires someone who understands that caregiving, at its best, is deeply human. There will be moments that challenge you—but also moments that stay with you forever.

If you are someone who leads with empathy, communicates with clarity, and values building something meaningful with the person you care for, this could be one of the most rewarding roles of your career.
