Job Summary
Murphy Oil Corporation's Geoscience Summer Internship Program offers an exciting opportunity to explore the energy industry, apply your classroom knowledge, and make meaningful contributions through real-world projects during a 12-week summer experience. As a Geoscience Summer Intern, you will interpret subsurface geoscience and related data to support hydrocarbon exploration and development while working alongside a mentor and experienced professionals. You will help develop recommendations for basin studies, prospects, and/or field development and collaborate with fellow interns and Murphy teams across the business. Current opportunities are available within our Exploration and Subsurface, Offshore, and Onshore Development teams at Murphy Oil Corporation's corporate office in Houston, Texas. If you are ready to gain hands-on geoscience experience and contribute to impactful summer projects, we encourage you to apply.
Responsibilities
Development Interns may conduct reservoir studies that will include interpretation of 3D seismic data, analyzing well logs, etc. with a geoscientist to draft cross-sections, structure/net pay maps, and amplitude maps to quantify the oil and gas reserves of a developing field. They should have a background with a heavy emphasis on stratigraphy and deep-water depositional systems.
Exploration Interns should have experience in 3D seismic interpretation, structural geology, basin modeling, and/or rock physics. They will interpret well log data, 3D seismic data, perform amplitude analyses, assist in the creation of regional basin models, and/or assist in maturation efforts over our exploration acreage in the US GOM and Internationally.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Geology, Geophysics or currently enrolled in a master's program or higher in Geology, Geophysics.
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university program for the duration of the internship
  • The successful candidate for this role must be authorized to work in the United States and must not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future (e.g., F1).
  • Minimum of twelve (12) continuous weeks' availability for internship

The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
