Job description

The System Administrator role will involve the installation, configuration, and daily maintenance of Oceaneering's server operating systems, server virtualization platforms, identity management, directory systems, and other tools associated with infrastructure and cloud operations.  The role's main focus will be centered around Linux support but could also include some Windows server support.

Oceaneering is a global provider of engineered services and products, primarily to the offshore energy industry. We develop products and services for use throughout the lifecycle of an offshore oilfield, from drilling to decommissioning. We operate the world's premier fleet of work class ROVs. Additionally, we are a leader in offshore oilfield maintenance services, umbilicals, subsea hardware, and tooling. We also use applied technology expertise to serve the defense, material handling, aerospace, science, and renewable energy industries.

Our regional support functions play a critical role in enabling the success of all Oceaneering business units. Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, or equivalent education and experience

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of collective experience as a Systems Administrator on enterprise linux systems, specifically Ubuntu and Redhat

  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience with scripting and automation (Bash, Python, Powershell, Ansible, Puppet, Kickstart, etc.)
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience using system events, logs, and other tools for troubleshooting, trend analysis, and reporting 

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience with vSphere or Azure hypervisors in a large, multi-site environment

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience with data gathering and data structures (XML, JSON, YAML, WQL, etc.)

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience with containerization and orchestration (AKS, docker, kubernetes)

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience with automated application and patch distribution in an Enterprise Linux environment
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience with network protocols, firewalls, and security best practices

Desired: 

  • Intermediate level knowledge of Windows Server Operating systems management on a global scale
  • Intermediate level experience with directory services and IDM tools (Entra, Active Directory)
  • Intermediate level experience with M365 and Azure Administration

Working Conditions

This position is considered OFFICE WORK which is characterized as follows. 

  • Almost exclusively indoors during the day and occasionally at night  
  • Occasional exposure to airborne dust in the workplace
  • Work surface is stable (flat)

Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and implement systems required to to properly manage, secure, and support both server and desktop Linux operating systems, especially Ubuntu and Redhat

  • Troubleshoot and resolve escalated Level II and III support tickets from the server to the end user

  • Contribute to patch management, backup/restore processes, and systems monitoring efforts

  • Be a key supporting member, project lead, and/or technical lead on major IT projects

  • Participate in on-call rotation and/or after-hours support

  • Create documentation, assist with training activities, and mentor other members of the department 

  • Assist other admins with tasks and project work
