What is an offshore rotation?

An Offshore Rotation job involves working on offshore rigs, ships, or platforms for a set period, followed by scheduled time off. Common rotation schedules include 14/14, 28/28, or similar variations, meaning workers spend a specific number of days on-site and then have the same number of days off. These jobs are common in industries like oil and gas, marine, and renewable energy. Workers typically handle demanding tasks in remote locations, with accommodations, meals, and transport provided by the employer.

What is a typical work schedule like for an offshore rotation?

Offshore Rotation jobs usually follow a set schedule such as 14 days on/14 days off or 21 days on/21 days off, meaning you work a consecutive number of days offshore, followed by an equal period of rest onshore. While on rotation, employees often work 12-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays, due to the continuous nature of offshore operations. Teams live and work together in close quarters, fostering a strong sense of camaraderie and collaboration. This schedule allows for extended time at home between rotations, but it also requires adaptability and resilience to manage the physical and mental demands of life offshore.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the offshore rotation position, and why are they important?

To thrive in an Offshore Rotation role, you need strong technical expertise in your field (such as engineering, operations, or maintenance), relevant industry certifications, and a good understanding of offshore safety protocols. Proficiency with industry-specific tools and systems, such as drilling equipment, SCADA systems, or marine navigation software, is typically required, along with certifications like BOSIET or HUET. Exceptional teamwork, adaptability, and strong problem-solving skills help you excel in a remote and multicultural environment. These skills and qualities are essential to ensure operational efficiency, maintain safety standards, and effectively handle the unique challenges of working offshore during rotational shifts.

This is a small concept and feasibility (C&F) group of mixed disciplines focused on evaluating and advancing industry disrupting technology to enhance Lam's product portfolio in the next 3-5yrs. Candidates who learn quickly, exhibit strong initiative, innovation, agility, analytical skills, and logical problem solving will excel as a part of this team.
What you'll do
  • Lead small to large scale C&F design projects, including conceptualization, complex component and assembly modeling, analysis, documentation, and test/validation of semiconductor chamber hardware to support C&F project deliverables.
  • Project scoping, planning, schedule and budget estimates, and provide status/progress updates in cross functional meetings.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs.

  • Lead support resources (ex: offshore design drafting, lab technicians, etc) to complete project deliverables.
  • Work with suppliers to source OEM parts and/or ensure in-house designed parts can be manufactured in accordance with performance and cost objectives.
  • Utilize system documentation (component/assy specs, drawings, P&IDs, interconnect diagrams, BOMs, etc) and best practices in root cause analysis to troubleshoot issues, and/or retrofit/modify/integrate sub systems for C&F testing as required.
  • Ensures produced documentation is consistent with SEMI, Lam Standards, and other standards as applicable. (ANSI, DIN etc.)
