Job description

Welder – Very Skilled, Open Root GTAW

VPE Thermal, a subsidiary of Vacuum Process Engineering, is a world-renowned leader in microchannel heat exchanger design and manufacturing. Our company serves a wide range of industries with commercial products including power generation, chemical processing, oil/gas, nuclear and renewable energy with state-of-the-art heat exchangers. In addition to commercial products, we maintain a strong culture of internal R&D with exciting projects using cutting edge manufacturing technology and design/analysis tools to invent the heat exchangers of tomorrow. Our current team at VPE Thermal is offering an opportunity for an experienced pipe and pressure vessel welder with a strong background in GTAW and FCAW processes. 

Must be very skilled in open root GTAW with multi-passes using light to heavy wall thicknesses. You will be required to pass a 6G Open-Root Tig Test using a 2-inch SCH40 Pipe.

Pay Range- $32-40/hour depending on experience. This role is required to be on second shift and VPE Thermal is willing to pay a $6 differential, once a candidate gets trained and starts on the second shift.

Job Description:

As a welder at VPE Thermal, your primary role will include interpreting engineering blueprints and written instructions and turning them into welded hardware. Duties include:

  • Layout/fit weldments according to specifications.
  • Perform GTAW and FCAW processes in all positions including 6G.
  • Weld mainly with stainless steel, thicknesses ranging from 1/16 inch to 1-1/2 inch.
  • Perform open root GTAW with purge in 6G position.
  • Understand and weld according to WPS specifications.
  • Follow manufacturing routing instructions.
  • Weld prep components including working with band saw, lathe, plasma cutter.
  • NDE Testing includes Dye Penetrant, UT, and Helium Leak Detection.
  • Rig and manipulate parts for position welding.

Required Experience:

  • Over five years’ experience or combination of experience and welding degree
  • Understanding of geometry dimensional and tolerances

Desired Experience:

  • Forklift operation.
  • Crane operation.
  • Knowledge of ASME processes and standards

Education and/or Experience

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
